Anne Keothavong should return to competition here, having secured a place in the main draw. Katie O'Brien's exit from Monterrey allows her to take part in a very tough qualifying tournament. To improve her ranking she will have to win 3 matches (1 in the main draw) and the first 2 are against players ranked around 100.

Meng Yuan should be well known to regular followers of the British women, having crossed paths with most of our top players in the last 2 years, winning all the encounters except a couple on grass  (where her moonball style is least effective)  against Katie. However Meng Yuan comfortably won their last encounter at the Australian Open.

As usual the service stats are not pretty - just 24% behind second serve, which has to improve to be regularly competitive at Tour level.
