Yes, Hev was lucky she edged up from 106 to 104 on Monday - the cut was 105! (I'm sure she would have ended up getting in anyway, but it would have lost the immediate impact of 3 Brits all getting direct entries)

Where is the cut off for qualifying? Or has it not been announced yet? I imagine that Katie, Emily and Mel must all be pretty close to it.
I believe for the Slams that the qualifying cut is made 2 weeks later, i.e. 4 weeks before the main draw starts.
As things stand with points to go on and off, the 3 of them should be just inside the top 250, Mel on 227 ranking points and Katie and Emily each on 224 points.
Emily of course out just now after an appendectomy, so needs to get hertself fit again. As for Katie, not quite sure what she's up to whilst she loses points ( 34 come off undefended this week though fortunately the next 34 come off after what I think is the cut off ). I know she was playing some World Team Tennis in the USA, so maybe has a fair commitment to that, which would seem a slightly worrying priority .
I'm not sure what the general cut-off for qualifying is ( and a 128 draw for the women at the US Open helps ), but I think it will be pretty tight. The "win a qualifying match and get 40 points" business seems to get a very good women's participation rate at the Slams.

I think slams are just like wta events so qualies is 3wks before, so Vigo will have come off from Katies rank I think so she'll probably miss out.
She's not entered anything, wonder if she'll take a break and prepare for indoors at end of year, unless she is a late entry to a wta event qualies somewhere.
I think WTT was an important change for her. 3wks playing with Hingis, on same team as McEnroe, being on court against Serena. She's not been enjoying tennis life much recently so this might have helped her have fun on court again. Shame her team missed out on playoffs on the last day :(

It's unlikely that anyone other than Laura and Naomi will make it into qualifying (it is indeed August 1st rankings). Mel, Emily and Katie will probably be in the 245-250 region, assuming Katie isn't in qualifying for one of next week's WTA events. The cut does sometimes drop to that level or below, but the tendency in recent years at Grand Slams has been for higher rather than lower cut-offs, and they are unlikely to be in a position to take advantage of a very late drop. On the plus side there is a hardcourt 50K in Turkey that week which could be a good source of points.
I agree with Paul. From the videos and reports I've seen about WTT both Anne and Katie made good choices. They looked like they were enjoying their tennis again and Anne in particularly, found some great form by all accounts. Katie too was playing doubles with Hingis and received some great praise from her.
For Anne, I think this has played her into form at an important time.
