Yes, Laura shocked Martinez Sanchez (CH 19 in 2010) in the 2010 Hopman Cup Final only for Muzz to 'lose' her the diamonds!
Anne's loss to Brianti was very recent, a straight sets loss in the Citi Open (Carlsbad WTA) a couple of weeks ago, but her two earlier wins were in straight sets too.
Govortsova (CH 35 in 2008) reached the Final of the Nottingham 75K (the one Elena won was the Nottingham 100K the following week) but retired in R2 in Birmingham, w/d from qualifying in Rosmalen, retired 0-6 0-3 down to Aga Radwanska in R1 at Wimbledon and has lost all four of her matches since.

Although she has drawn the No. 1 seed, Martinez Sanchez isn't the worst oppenent for Laura to face as her game matches up well against her and she will be confident after the Hopman cup win against her. I feel sometimes Laura can be a bit too aggressive on return of serve, which means she doesn't get enough of them in play. However, against a serve vollyer like Martinez Sanchez aggressive returning is exactly the right tactic.
I also think Laura will be fired up after missing out last week and I would be surprised if she doesn't at least make this a very close match. In fact, I fancy her to win today.
I think martinez has gone through a bit of a resugence of late. Think it will be tough. Also, she will know what to expect from laura now, so there is no surprise factor. Still should be reasonably close though. Elena should get the winnot very confident about Anne.
Leyton Orient and Laura both losing simultaneously has not put me in a good mood. I probably underestimated Martinez Sanchez as you don't get to be no. 37 in the world without being good
