I was a bit surprised to find that Lisa has lost 11 of her last 12 WTA-ranked matches (she may have won some British Tour matches in between) and last won back to back matches when she reached the Glasgow and Wrexham semis in January. She wasn't too far off against Jakupovic last week, who was ranked higher than Nowak is, so hopefully this week will go a bit better for her, since she's too good to be struggling like this.

There's an 'interesting' H2H here - Mel played Fuda (CH 143 in 2006) on Mount Gambier way back in 2005 ... and got double bagelled!
Meanwhile, I nearly got confused over Tara's opponent's name - before finally realising that the top two South Africans are called Chanelle S and Chanel S (Scheepers and Simmonds) - and I thought we were bad with all the Jamies and Joshes!

From Mel on twitter, Tara and herself both lost tough matches. Mel's scoreline 4-6 6-2 6-4. Shame but thats the way its going for our girls at the moment.
We need to get a successor to Nigel Sears ASAP, someone that knows what they're doing and who can inspire our current crop of players. I never thought I'd say this but the men are leading the way at the moment. They may have alot of catching up to do but their future starting to look alot brighter.
Well done to Sarah. Maybe she should become British - then she might have more than just one mad fan (I'm sure she has more than one fan already, but probably not more than one mad enough to be welcomed here )
As Ken on Radio Tennis said during the Bally-Görges match last night, "there are loads of British here (listening and commenting), so where are all the Germans?" (*)
(*) we'll gloss over the fact that he was conveniently ignoring the language factor, the fact that the Germans have a lot more top 100 players to follow (so a match like that isn't such a big deal for them) and the fact that it didn't start until 2 am over there
