Crazy scoreline - a double bagel with a bit of an unexpected filling!

In R1, Mel, seeded 4, plays Nicole Rottmann (AUT) WR 388 (at CH), while Emily, seeded 5, plays Chiaki Okadaue JPN WR 399 (CH 248 in 2010), who is on a 9-match losing streak in 25KS and over, i.e. ignoring a 10K Final in the middle. Still waiting for Sam's draw.

There's a mixed bag awaiting the qualifiers. Three of them will face an Aussie wc, while seeds 1, 3, 6 & 8 await four others.

Yes, after Mel retired with injury in last weeks quarter finals I was initially pleased to see her competing here OK, but sadly evidently not OK.

Not the best of starts downunder with some injury issue and falling quite a bit behind the points she earned in her first two weeks last year.

On the other hand, good to see Emily hit the ground running after her involuntary break.
