Week 39 - ITF ($25K) - Clermont-Ferrand, France - Hard

QR1: (q3) Anna Fitzpatrick WR 405 v Aleksandra Treskunova (RUS) UNR - winner likely to play (q9) Patrycja Sanduska (POL) WR 522 in the FQR
QR1: (q13) Jade Windley WR 584 v Svetlana Piquerez (FRA) UNR - winner likely to play (q4) Myrtille Georges (FRA) WR 411 in the FQR
QR1: (q11) Lucy Brown WR 564 v (wc) Tatiana Filaire (FRA) UNR - winner likely to play (q8) Ksenia Lykina (RUS) WR 458 in the FQR

Tara Moore is shown as the no. 1 seed but there is no seed in line 1, which hopefully means she scraped into the main draw at the last moment.

It stands for Late Withdrawal Main, which as it suggests means she withdrew from the main draw, close to the start of the tournament.

Alternatively it stands for :  you know I got a late wild card entry into a 75K last week and what with me doing well pretty well there and having done well the previous week you don't seriously expect me to be competing in this 25K, plus I've got a cold   smile

Now, now, play nice, there's no need to be that cynical.

Why on earth had Heather entered a 25k?

4th seed Georges got KOd in 3 sets this morning, which opens up Jade's section if she manages to get through today's match.

Does that mean she's got a fine?

Now I read that as being affectionately realistic

FQR: (q13) Jade Windley WR 584 v (wc) Caroline Romeo (FRA) UNR

Romeo is the 17yo who upset 4th seed Myrtille Georges today - she double bagelled a Brit (Helena Phillips) in the FQR of the Madrid 10K last week.

I'm not denying it's not probably realistic, and echo the sentiment of Mervatron, ie why on earth did she enter a 25k anyway.

However, Indiana's tone suggests real snobbiness on Heather's part, and I haven't seen that in her.

I'm pretty sure he didn't mean it that way and it was just meant to be a jokey explanation of fairly genuine and sensible reasons for pulling out - that's how I read it, at least.

That's essentially it.  Ah, how the written word can be misconstrued.  Thank you to my defense team for basically rightly interpreting my meaning.

Sorry, Helen, if you took it otherwise, but I most certainly was in no way meaning snobbiness on Heather's part.  I probably worded it in jest a bit snobbily, but the last thing I would want to do is to seriously imply any such thing about Heather.
