As far as I can see, there has still been no announcement about the Eastbourne wild cards, apart from Sam Stosur.
I wonder what they are waiting for. If the remaining two WCs are free for Brits, surely JoKo has to get one of them (unless the injury she pulled out of Birmingham doubles with is more serious than we thought) and there seems to me to be a good case to give Tara the other one. Maybe it's between Tara and Bally, with Elena to get it if she wins today (which as well as suggesting she's in good form would mean she can't play qualies) and Tara otherwise.

Why on earth she and Stosur didn't enter on time (and are getting rewarded for not doing so) is beyond me.
Isn't there something in the WTA rule book (Section II) about top 10 players (at year end) getting extra privileges regarding WC and effectively being allowed to enter tournaments late almost at will?
I don't think the tournaments get a choice, but surely they'd want two big stars anyway, especially very approachable ones like Li & Sam.

Yes, apparently there is a rule about that. It still seems ridiculous that they didn't enter on time though - it's not as this is a last-minute fill-in tournament (like an International might be if they'd gone out of a big tournament early the previous week)

Li Na and Sam Stosur were irrelevant to British wildcards - they were given the top 20 wild cards, which if unused revert to 'next player in'. Bally and JoKo were awarded the 2 'other' wildcards
So do the WTA always designate 2 spots on every entry list for any 'top 20 WC', similar to what the ATP does with 2 SE spots, which if are unused go to the next two in the alternates list?
Or is it just because Eastbourne is a Premier event?
