Dan Evans and Brydan Klein direct entrants for Istanbul Challenger ($42.5k) the following week. Goodall 5th alternate
Couldn't care less about Klein but delighted to see Dan playing an overseas challenger. I feared that he was still going to be hanging around British futures over the summer. There is also another challenger in Turkey the following week.
As for Goodall. There is massive speculation that this will be his last year on the tour so maybe he has decided on one last make a break attempt at playing challengers.
As someone else said, I'd have thought the US would be a natural port of call - I think Dan would get on well in the US- think he'd enjoy it. But Turkey, why not ? Frankly, anywhere bar GB futures playing the same crowd.
I think I said the US but it did occur to me that if he went there now he would probably be facing about two months out there. He may find 2-3 weeks in European challengers, a week or two back home and then a few weeks in the US (he should make US Open quallies) as a more appealing prospect.
I hope to see Goodall keep going for a few years still, inside he is still a very good player!
Recently though, it's unfortunate to see that he has have into a bit of shell with how he is playing. And to be honest, you can't really blame him for that, his confidence must be shot and there is always the financial pressure lingering, especially in his case it seems. I could see a few wins at a decent level really turn it around for him. When he is confident in his own aggressive game, he is a very difficult player to beat for a lot of players and CAN compete at challenger level. However at the moment, like it has been said elsewhere, he will struggle to win futures matches against confident lower standard players who will go for their shots at pressure situations.

Yet he may come up against the same crowd.
The following GB have entered singles:
Brydan, Dan E, Josh G, Ed C, Josh M, Alex W and Sean Thornley
I assume that with Sean entered Mr Rice will be present to partner him in the doubles
Looking at the Manchester field - GB players current sit in 7 out of 8 seeds. 3 more guaranteed in main draw plus 4 wild cards and probably the top 2 in the qualifying list(both GB) and any others that qualify. So at least half the field will be GB - should get a GB winner and at least 3 semi finalists

Defending champion Olivetti might have something to say about that. Apparently he has a massive serve and proved almost impossible to break last year.
