Good for Ms Vondrousova. As for Rome .... that's appalling. Your country's only active Grand Slam winner? Fed Cup stalwart? In her last year on Tour? And such a friendly person for fans to boot? And adding insult to injury by giving one to someone who's been banned? No, no, no.
A story of remarkable persistence. At age 28, Tuna Altuna (TUR) - whom I can never think of without thinking of Salmon's collection of fishy-sounding players - has scored his first ever Tour win: Tuna Altuna/Alessandro Motti d Dusan Lajovic/Victor Troicki 4-6 7-5 10-4. And he's done it at home, as he's from Istanbul. Well done, Tuna! The applause must have been off-the-SCALES. One can only imagine the aGILLity of the players. The afFINity of the fans for their home squad.
I'll stop there. But it is nice to see someone who has been on the fringes for years have his moment of fame and glory.

well hats off to the man, they are now in the Istanbul final
Not absolutely remarkable since he was #1 seed and it is his 3rd ATP 250 singles title in the last year, but the often mentioned Pablo Carreno Busta ( going back when Kyle came across him in futures a few times as Pablo was recovering his ranking after some time out ) won Estoril.
He rises to a CH 18, one place higher than his current WR 19 doubles ranking.
So still just a little behind Jack Sock ( 15 & 18 ) if you add singles and doubles rankings.

Does that make Jack Sock the overall best player in the world?

Late to the party, but your pun did make me laugh, JonH! Poor man, I suspect it must have been a bit much: I checked online and the Turkish papers were all covering his exploits massively, as he was the first Turkish man to reach an ATP final, singles or doubles. Suspect the pressure got to them.
It is amazing to see what PCB has done recently. I noticed people apparently were asking him about the World Tour Finals in interview ....
WTA Insider: You've had a fantastic two weeks, winning the title in Bogota and then making the final in Rabat. What does it all mean to you?
Schiavone: It's fantastic for me. It means no matter where you come from, no matter which number you are, no matter which position of your life or the age, you can do it. That's the best things that I felt in the last month. And then also, work pays off always.
