Born in 2006, young Clervie Ngounoue (USA) has been making waves, rather in the mould of Coco Graff, for rather a while now...

Having just turned 16 last week, she has been beating players ranked about 500 and yesterday beat Zacharias, WTA 241

She's certainly been an interesting player to watch grow into adult tennis

(Her younger brother, Carel, born 2008, is no slouch either - making the final of Les Petits As this year)

Not a tennis performance, but it's worth commending Juncheng Shang who stopped play to take care of a ball kid who was about to faint.

Good man, well done to him!

Also, Nick K shows a softer and more human and caring side, which has played out well in the social media world

I think it's a remarkable achievement that Coco Gauff - who turned 18 this year - is the world number one in doubles.

And at the same time she's about to break into the top 10 in singles

Most dubs players are (a) singles players who've switched over later in their careers, or (b) players who've focused primarily on doubles for a long time

And, yet, there's Coco - a slip of a thing - showing how to do both, at tip-top level, and - presumably - the benefits of playing doubles in terms of helping singles (or the benefit of playing singles to help doubles?)

Still remember watching her matches at Wimbly qualis when she had the wildcard back in 2019, aged 15 - one of the highlights of my tennis watching.....

I don't know where this should go, but:

Margaret Court defends tennis record in wake of Serena Williams' farewell, says admiration not reciprocated

I have to say that I think that she has a point.

Don't anyone try and convince me that Carlos Alcaraz doesn't deserve a mention in this thread wink

Men's tennis' youngest ever WR1 - and by some distance, beating the previous record held by Leyton Hewitt by over a year. What a talent.

 I second that.

What a remarkable player for his young age.

We are seeing the next generation right now.

They have arrived let by Alcaraz and the sky is the limit for this young man. Vamos to him.

She does deffinately have a point. Her Christian beliefs which may upset many today should not be used to overshadow what she achieved. She still holds the record for most slams. End of.

Although of course many would debate the value of at least her early Australian Open titles. Overall she won the AO 11 times.

Clearly though she was still one of the great players. I wonder where she will end up in Tennis Abstract's 'Greatest Players of All Time' list.

Coco Gauff has qualified for the WTA year-end championships in both singles AND doubles - still only age 18 !!! It's an amazing achievement.
(Love the girl. Always have, from age 15 at Wimbly qualis)

HUGE congratulations to crowd favourite, Gael Monfils, for becoming the oldest male player in the open era to win an ATP title

www.msn.com/en-gb/sport/other/tennis-monfils-becomes-oldest-player-to-win-atp-title-with-auckland-victory/ar-BB1rg7Sh

38 years and four months
Married and a dad
Been on the tour all his life
Had his ups and downs (!) but still there, still 'striking a good ball', as he says
