Klosters is as usual the venue for the under 18 European Championships. Anton Matusevich is seeded to meet Deney Wassermann again in the last 16 (Anton won 7-5 in the third at Wimbledon). Both our girls have tough matches against players who have respectable WTA rankings. Live scores should be available at http://scores.tennisticker.de/sui/sb.html?tournid=3819
Deney Wassermann lost out to a Spaniard who will therefore be Anton's next opponent. Anton & Jacob are on court at the moment, trailing 3-6 1-0 to a French pair
Decent effort but that ends GB's interest in the U18 singles:
R4
Alex Martinez (ESP) def. (9) Anton Matusevich (GBR) 4-6 7-5 6-1
Martinez is also a 2001-born. And has a junior ITF ranking of JWR 1884 !!! (although we know that Spanish players pretty much ignore juniors). His adult ATP ranking is 1701
The advantage of living in probably the perfect climate for Tennis and a week in week out futures circuit attracting players from around Europe/the world to test themselves on it.

I think the other important advantages include their domestic money tournaments which are very important too - when you look at Martinez' record, he hasn't played that many ITF events - pretty similar to Anton.
And the club structure which allows for lots of good players (both Spanish and other) to use it as their base, play together etc. - without people telling them it's 'doubles day' and they have to get off the courts !
