Boys & Girls: Budaors Cup, Hungary, clay - Grade 2 (Week 34)

The first of two G2s in Hungary with James Story and Connor Thomson.  I have edited the title to acknowledge the fact that Marni Banks, Millie Bissett and Morgan Cross were all in qualifying (and Joe Leather, Finn Murgett plus Ben Heynold) - the first two losing in the final round.

R1 (L32)

James Story v (5) Bora Sengul (TUR)

Connor Thomson v Nini Gabriel Dica (ROU)

Mixed fortunes with a win for James (over a top 100 ranked player) and loss for Connor. Finn, Joe and Marni are in the doubles draw (with James/Connor).

R1 (L32)

James Story d. (5) Bora Sengul (TUR) 6-4 3-6 7-6(4)
Nini Gabriel Dica (ROU) d. Connor Thomson 6-3 6-4

Well done James !

Great win for him over the top 100 player.

James played very well at Roehampton - and, of course, making the semis at WImbly in the dubs must have been a real boost.

James comes through another 3 setter to earn a match against the top seed. He and Connor are also through to the doubles semis

R2

James Story d. Mate Voros (HUN) 5-7 6-2 6-4

QF

(1) Natan Rodrigues (BRA) v James Story

A first G2 semi for James. To make the final he will have to find a way past a Spanish qualifier who, though modestly ranked that is because he has only played 3 low grade tournaments - and won the lot, so yet to experience defeat in ITFs. To cap a good day he and Connor are through to their first doubles final at this level (though both have reached the semis at G1 or GA level - Wimbledon in James's case)

SF

James Story v (Q) Carlos Gimeno Valero (ESP)

Doubles F

Story/Thomson v Andaloro/Maggioli (ITA)

Doubles F

Story/Thomson d. Andaloro/Maggioli (ITA) 7-6(4) 5-7 [10-7]
