Qualifying has begun for the Australian Open warm-up event. Jacob Fearnley, Harry Wendelken, Emma Raducanu, Destinee Martins and Victoria Allen should be in the main draw from Friday. Mixed results for our two in qualifying
Boys QR1
(q12) Connor Thomson d. Javier Cueto Ramos (ESP) 6-4 6-3
(WC) Philip Sekulic (AUS) d. (q9) James Story 6-3 3-6 6-4
Strong main draws, with nearly all the Australian Open competitors here. Both Victoria and Destinee's opponents have won matches at $25K level - Bencheikh a recent finalist
Boys R1 (L64)
Mateus Alves (BRA) v Harry Wendelken
Jacob Fearnley v Seon Yong Han (KOR)
Girls R1 (L64)
(9) Emma Raducanu v Sijia Wei (CHN)
(15) Loudmilla Bencheikh (FRA) v Victoria Allen
Destinee Martins v Helene Pellicano (MLT)
A particularly impressive win for Destinee, but it probably won't be any easier for her in round 2 against the second seed. Jack (who wasn't on the original entry list for either Aussie junior event) edged out Harry's R2 opponent 7-5 in the third at Wimbledon
Boys R2
(12) Tristan Boyer (USA) v Harry Wendelken
(7) Dalibor Svrcina (CZE) v Jacob Fearnley
Girls R2
(9) Emma Raducanu v Natsumi Kawaguchi (JPN)
Destinee Martins v (2) Qinwen Zheng (CHN)
Good start for Emma she has already exceeded her seeding here, while its nice to have junior success she has bigger fish to fry but my assumption is that with changes and evolution of the transition tour a top junior rank will give her easier access to 25 and 60Ks?
I guess people know you can follow the junior matches on Tennis-Ticker for which there is an App. Emmas match is 1 all at the moment both having broken.
Well, she soon put a stop to that and took the first set 6- 1
(im just trying to stay awake until those other matches start
