What is the convention on stating rankings now? Does 474 / 44 mean 474 WTA and 44 ITF? Or something else entirely (Sorry this double system has sent my brain into a real fug)

Yes that's correct the O. Mihail has an ITF ranking of 1040 so hers should read UNR/1040

I see she is down for several weeks of 15K tournaments. I wonder what the reasoning is behind this planning. Perhaps to get a very high ITF ranking so she can get into WTA tournaments?

I guess all the players are looking at the new system and trying to work out the best way to game the system to suit each individual player. In the case of Francesca there may be a policy to avoid pushing her too hard too soon. So we might see her adopting a policy of dominating each level before moving up to the next.
She does need though to take account of the fact that I have her in my top 10. So don't take too long before more moving on, Fran
This is a factor that all too few of our players seem to have taken cognisance of. Maybe we should tweet them or something.
Yes Fran and Mandy both. I think their strategies are probably to push their rankings up to near the top of the ITF list, so that should then guarantee them a run of W25 entrances. Then they have the opportunity of consolidating a W25 ranking, so they don't have to return to the ITF level. What you don't really want to be doing is oscillating between the two, since you want points on just one tour a at a time. Mandy of course has less choice now than Fran, but I imagine her choice to be similar. Gain 2-3 W15 wins if you can, get the ITF entries into the W25s, and then go for an appropriate run of those events to get firmly onto the WTA ladder.
At the moment I see Fran is on Antalya acceptance lists the next two weeks, and then early Feb she is on both Antalya and on an Alt list for the Slovakia W25. I doubt whether she will play all these weeks, but if she plays 2-3 weeks Antalya and reaches SFs +, I'd certainly expect her to shift her focus afterwards.
