A huge moment for Anna, she wins 7-6(7) in the 3rd set on her 5th MP, after 3 hrs 33 mins. A massive tussle. She lead *5-3 in the final set but then dropped her serve twice, only to break back as her opponent in turn served for the match. In the TB, Anna was 6-3 up, but lost those MPs, but then gained another two, without her opponent getting one, and won on the second of these subsequent two.
And the match is a huge moment because next week Anna will lose her ranking... but this win means she will regain it again the following week. And its now secure for a while, since her next counter only comes off 25 May next year... She can breathe again, well once she has her breath back for a start
Anna plays the 7th seed next, but I actually give her a better chance of winning this match then today's. Her opponent is 26 but at her CH, so presumably has been improving, but Viller Moller her opponent today is a promising junior and I suspect a bit more to her game than Dapkute. Much will probably depend on Anna's powers of recovery, as to how well she can show up again, especially as her Dapkute won easily today in little over an hour.
R16: POPESCU, Anna (GBR) 1184/634 vs DAPKUTE, Iveta (LTU) [7] 1021=CH
Anna wins her doubles QF though, playing with Ekaterina KAZIONOVA (RUS), who has a very useful doubles ranking of 343 (and why they are top seeds), against a Polish pair.
Final score 6-7(3) 6-2 10-1
