Staying in Texas, Lissey and Emily App appear to have made the MD together with Katie S and Jodie, since the top q seed was below them in the q draw. Hope Jodie is ok this week too.
Both Emily App and Katie Swan have drawn qualifiers.
Jodie has Amy Zhu.
Lissey has the Swiss 6th seed, Leonie Kung, who she beat 2 & 2 only a couple of weeks ago at Roehampton (although she beat Lissey a couple of weeks before that in Israel)
Quite understandably nervous finish, but good win in the end. Strong finish to the first set, after multiple breaks by both, and then took control at the start of the second. Her service game stats were good for most of the match. Well done to her.
Katie plays Marine Pautard in R1. She was the Q1, so highest ranked player, she could have faced, but should really be fine. She'll play another Q should she come through. Both potential R2 opponents played a lot of the Mexican W15 swing that Emily App played earlier in the year, one of them partnering Emily to a dubs title, but these are all circa 600 players, and none of them massively young and unknown, so hopefully a 3rd successive QF for Katie.
Alicia will be on court very soon and Katie is next match up after Kayla Day and Claire Liu finish. However, they have just taken 32 minutes to complete the first two games!
Surely a key year, 2020, for Emily. Around 100 places lower than the start of the year and not really making much progress. Sky sponsorship starting to run out. She doesn't seem able to make a real step up fro the 15K level. Still young I know but I guess she'll be a bit disappointed with her year so far.
23 years olds, been playing for years, but never higher than 718. A career high win of 396.
Kayla Day eventually won the battle of the US former junior grand slam winners, edging Liu 7-6 in the third in a match lasting over 3 and a half hours, and she could be a potential QF opponent for Katie. Both of those Americans are currently circa 250 places off their career highs.
