I see that the doubles is just a 24 pair draw. Jamie & Bruno had previously led and seemingly won a battle to get all Masters to have at least 32 pair draws. Maybe an organisers' plea that these are special times?

Anyway one result is that it looks as if Purcell & Saville only just sneaked in. Their CR is 79 which shows as the last direct acceptance CR. I guess it's fair dos that they get to continue their fight for an 02 place. Being 'banished' to Nur-Sultan may work out quite well for them in the current week but there is no race alternative in Paris week.

4 lucky loser spots in draw here, so 4 of 7 fqr losers will get through. Bit of a mockery of qualies really.

Jamie and Neal have a tough opener versus Tsitsipas and Qureshi, if they win that it is a rematch versus Kubot and Melo, almost a winner takes all play off for the o2.

Sofia, however, could become very important and a big event for the doubles race.

So we have in the doubles race the top 4 pairs already qualified for the O2, ie. Ram & Salisbury, Krawietz & Mies, Pavic & Soares and Granollers & Zeballos ( though no sign of Granollers since the US Open? - plus hope Ram & Salisbury will be OK ).

5th to 10th are playing in Paris.

5. Koolhof & Mektic : 2145
6. Peers & Venus : 2060
7. Murray & Skupski : 1800
8. Kubot & Melo : 1780
9. Melzer & Roger-Vasselin : 1670
10. Purcell & Saville : 1665

11th - 13th plus 15th and 16th are not competing as pairs in Paris and are all more than 300 points behind 10th place so are effectively out of contention, with next week's Sofla just an ATP 250.

14. Gille & Vliegen : 1050
17. Herbert & Mahut : 930

In R2, as well as the potential (4) Kubot & Melo vs Murray & Skupski match, there could also be Purcell & Saville vs (7) Peers & Venus.

Mies also not playing last two weeks...

It is a busy day in Paris today, a total of 16 matches spread over three courts. No British interest though. Dan moved up a couple of places in the rankings, he is now at 31, just 3 places below his career hhigh of 28. He has very, very little to defend between now and June. The Covid ranking system will make moving up (and down) harder than normal.

Does anyone know if finishing the year inside the top 30 still means a guarantee place in some tournaments for the following year? Even if your ranking drops during year.

Gutting if true - what a shame.
