Weeks 6 & 7 - Australian Open, Melbourne, Australia Hard

Well....

L128: (30) Daniel Evans CR 33, CH = 28 (March 2020) vs Cameron Norrie CR 67, CH = 41 (May 2019)

Surprisingly no ATP h2h, with only a challenger meeting in 2016 in Aptos listed on the ATP website. Dan won 6-3 6-4 in the final.

Well, well, well.

The winner of that is probably just a further win ( vs Ivashka (BLR) WR 110 or (Q) Safiullin (RUS) WR 182 ) away from a R3 meeting with (2) Nadal

On sheer will alone, Nadal will get to at least QF's you'd think. I suspect/hope that the ATP Cup is precautionary, then again, he is coming in cold to the AO apart from the exho in Adelaide.

Oh well that's a shame. Only positive is that one of them will definitely get to R2.

Thats a bad draw for Dan, Cam playing well right now. Either way if there is a matchup with Nadal for either one of them, i'll be having a look at the odds and possibly stepping a second toe into the water.

Agree. Its a fast court. Dont know who nadal has before round three but Id fancy Evo in that. Not sure Id fancy cam to beat Rafa, but agree Evo v Cam is very even.

Nadal first faces Djere (SRB) and then one of two qualifiers - Troicki (SRB) or Michael Mhoh (USA)

If Dan beats Cam, they will both have matched their points from last year. So a chance for one of them to climb further up the rankings

Jamie Murray on what being able to play in the AO means to him & his impressions of life in Melbourne since he emerged from quarantine.

Dan says

"It's unfortunate that two Brits play each other. It's a long way to come to play each other," said Evans.

"But it will be a good match and will be good fun. Hopefully I win. It's a difficult match, though.

"Obviously Cameron would know me better than most. He beat me last time, when we were in lockdown in London, so I'm the underdog. The pressure is on him."

Love it, let the mind games begin!

I'm hoping for a Cam win but OTOH, I think Dan has more firepower in his game than Cam and would probably go further.

Which I think depends on Rafa. this is the section: Ivashka or Safiullin next, youd' hope both could manage that one. Rafa after that unless Rafa gets beaten - Djere isn't likely to do that, Troicki or Mmoh, hard to see it - if Rafa is fit, it's Rafa in the 3rd round - can't see Cam damaging Rafa, maybe on a fast court, Evo could have a chance??
