Yes, I think you are correct. He reached the semi final of this tournament last year. However, at some point the rankings system will go back to normal and all points over 52 weeks old will be removed. Does anyone have any insight as to when this might happen?

Happy Mother's day!
Apparently August 2022 for the ATP when all anniversary points and half points are planned to be finally taken off and things get fully back to the rolling 52 week method.
A few things will become clearer for the process in the short term when we see the updated ATP and WTA 15/03 rankings updates in practice.

I wonder if some of the lower ranked players will take this to court. Allowing players to hold onto their points for that long is massively detrimental to young players as it effectively prevents them from entering higher raned tournaments and therefore has an impact on their ability to earn money on the tour and possibly miss out on sponsorship opportunities.

We need a union. To represent the players. Like the atp. Oh. Hang on the union runs the tour. Mmm.

Ask Mr Djokovic, I'm sure he would start one.
Sorry, I was being ironic. im re reading the fabulous Open Tennis by Richard Evans; in the early days of open tennis around 1972 or so, the ATP formed as purely a players union, hence the name. The circuit was run by the ITF and their body the MIPTC as the Grand Prix, and separately the WCT tour was played. The WCT and Grand Prix later merged into two parts of one single Grand Prix. it was in 1990 when the ATP staged an effective coup at the US Open and in their famous parking lot press conference , announced they would take over and run the tour. So they moved from representing the players to running the tour. This may seem good in theory but it meant they now have equal responsibility to the players and the tournaments and sponsors. So when the players need or want a voice, the atp is no longer really the body they can go to. They employ them rather than represent them. which in turn makes Djokos moves relevant if you happen to agree with the motives for those moves.
L16: Daniel Evans & Robin Haase (NED) CR 181 (145+36) vs Karen Khachanov & Andrey Rublev (RUS/RUS) CR 169 (82+87)
The Russians have withdrawn, Rublev apparently suffering from fatigue, though he's still in the singles!
L16: Daniel Evans & Robin Haase (NED) CR 182 (146+36) vs (Q) Lorenzo Sonego & Andrea Vavassori (ITA/ITA) CR 301 (208+93)
And Sonego got the seedings boost from Stan's singles withdrawal and finds himself lined up as Dan's possible 2nd opponent there also - they might get to see a lot of each other.
That aside, Dan and Haase will be quite happy with that doubles change!
I don't really like the changes that have been made to the rankings system, but I'm not sure there is a better solution. I agree with Emmsie that it makes advances up the rankings much slower, but the converse is also true - some times youngsters get injured and the current system gives them a cushion.
What of prize money when the world gets back to normal? Is there any chance that the weighting of prize money will retain its slant towards the earlier rounds? This is surely a subject that would be of interest to a players' union!
