Wild swings of fortunes in Jay's match - Jay went 5-3 up in the 1st set but Sugita, who had lost 15 of his last 16 matches on clay (though the win was against a top 100 player - Lloyd Harris), then won 7 games in a row to go a set and a break up (6-3 3-0 then 4-1) but Jay ended up winning the last 9 games of the match to salvage the 2nd set and then bagel Sugita in the 3rd!

Well done Jay! Stringing the wins together has been a problem of late so let's hope he can take advantage of his R2 draw and put a run together.

Didnt spot this yesterday, shame Paul couldnt keep on his clay court horse. But hes a couple more events this trip so hopefully we will see him get a decent result

He's seeded five next week Jon, so not such a tough entry list (Jay is seeded three). Hopefully that will mean they both get a decent way through the tournamen.

Yeah, I had noticed that - and we think not on clay if the ATP site is correct re Morelos - still not 100% clear on the logic there - and the hardcourts will certainly suit Jay more, if indeed they are hardcourts!

So I found the Instagram account for the Morelos Open, it says the venue is Hotel Racquet Cuernavaca, a quick google satellite view of the place shows only hardcourts there.

Good sleuthing! Well, I will stop banging on and just wish the lads good luck on the hard courts next week!

It's not that uncommon.
Australia also has a strange run of hardcourts with a clay event thrown in the middle

Jay takes the first set against Cazaux. His opponent is only 19 but reached a junior CH of 4, so not a pushover! So far he's served nine aces to Jay's one.
