Krunic the top seed in qualifying got as far as 6-4 5-4 and then retired.
She even had a match point! Had to retire at *40-Ad
Ingrid went to college very briefly, did phenomenally in her freshman year, and then it never really happened when she went onto the tour. She made the doubles specialist switch pretty quickly I think.
Jodie into a third. With Ponchet's slightly convoluted shot prep Jodie did a good job in the opening set of taking time away from her. Couldn't get on the front foot as much in the second and too many mistakes.
Jodie rallied from 2-5* to 4-5*, at which point I was hoping that the ghost of Tara could come to her aid. Unfortunately however Ponchet closed it out 6-4
Urgh, although Ponchet deserved it. The Frenchwoman served at 21% in set one, and Jodie was demolishing the second. After that she got her first serves up to 70% in sets 2 and 3 and Jodie couldn't really touch her on return.
Shame, Jodie never seems to do quite as well indoors as I always expect her to!
Well done Katie, but the score is a bit harsh on Ingrid. There were a lot of close games but she didn't take her chances (0-3 break points in the first set, 1/5 in the second set). The first set was 65 points in just six games.
