I notice that Dodin retired in her FQ match. I still can't believe it's possible to get a LL spot when you fail to complete your previous match. Surely that's one rule the WTA should be urgently reviewing?

I understand your point but do we want to make players limp through the rest of their match, or carry on when they're patently ill, because they know they have to in order to be in LL contention? Some will have retired because they've got an upset stomach which will be fine the next day and it's not necessarily great to effectively make them carry on playing.
I've got a feeling of you retire from qualies you have to get a certificate from the on-site medical team to then sign in as a lucky loser. I'm sure I've heard that before, but could be making it up!
Harriet picked a very good doubles partner and bar a few games in the second set, when the Romaian pair were on fire, they were the more consistent team.
They will play the winners of the match that follows them on the same court.
Nicelescu has such a weird game though, sliced forehand, loads of junk balls. Knows how to maximise her game which, to be frank, is loads of junk balls and weird angles

Niculescu has been a runner up in doubles at Wimbledon.
