Week 41 - ATP 250 - UniCredit Firenze Open - Florence, Italy (indoor hard) - doubles

L16:  (1) Wesley Koolhof (NED) & Neal Skupski CR 7 (3+4) vs Nicolas Mahut & Edouard Roger-Vasselin (FRA/FRA) CR 67 (23+44)  hmm

The boys could have done with a better draw, I think...

Much stronger field here than Gijon, where Jamie + have a much kinder draw

Lloyd and Harri withdrew from here, not sure of issue?

Training week in London, presumably with Louis Cayer. They werent even going to be seeded here so looks a sensible decision.

Their chances for Turin are looking strong to me. Needing the top 7 they are currently 7 with Putz/Venus close behind but a near 500 point lead on 9th and ahead of them in 6th are Kokkinakis/Kyrgios who havent signed up for anything next two weeks and in singles NK is down for Basel where TK is on qualifying alts for Vienna so they should be overtaken before Paris.

thanks Wolf - would K and K not get a grand slam winners direct entry to the Tour finals if they are in top 20 , like Djoko is going to in singles? So they probably have a place sewn up , pretty much ? Or is that not a rule that applies to doubles?

I didnt say they wouldnt. Lloyd and Harri need to finish is the top 7 as the spot reserved for Grand Slam winners will go to either K/K or Ebden/Purcell. Purcell is concentrating on his singles playing challengers so that pair either need K/K to stay in the top 7 or withdraw from the finals.

Cool, indeed you did say Lloyd and Harri need top 7. Good news is Lloyd and Harri will be in Europe now on the indoor courts they seem to like with Stockholm for starters , so Harri will enjoy good support. Good stuff and thanks for the update!

Looking at the points properly, youd have to say K and K are home and dry really arent they? Probably why they arent playing together before maybe Paris ? But Lloyd and Harri do have a decent buffer over Bolelli and Fognini and cabal and Farah to take the final spot and it Does look likely K and K will fall outside the top 8 anyway. So Id say they sitting in a strong place, good stuff .

3 Brits in Turin would be great

As I feared:

L16:  Nicolas Mahut & Edouard Roger-Vasselin (FRA/FRA) CR 67 (23+44) defeated (1) Wesley Koolhof (NED) & Neal Skupski CR 7 (3+4) by 2 & 4  cry

Saw some highlights from Florence last night - Id be surprised if 5 percent of seats where taken although to be fair it was a Tuesday afternoon session.
