Week 19 - ITF M25 - Värnamo, Sweden (clay)

L32:  Mark Whitehouse WR 556 (CH = 523 last December) vs (6) Lucas Catarina (MON) WR 491 (CH = 341 in June 2018)

L32:  Qualifier vs (3) Jay Clarke WR 518 (-185 places in today's rankings cry ) (CH = 153 in July 2019)

L32:  (5) Charles Broom WR 383 (CH = 352 last November) vs Elmer Moeller (DEN) WR 685 (= CH)

All the players will need to watch out for the Swedish top seed, Madaras (WR 248; born in Romania), who's won seven ITF titles so far this year, admittedly M15s (mostly in Antalya).  He's in Mark's quarter of the draw.

I'm not sure Mark will have to worry about Madaras - I think Catarina will likely be a big ask....

Well, for now at least, this Sweden M25 could be the tournament that takes us to 20 in the top 500.

Reminder from the Top 500 thread, Jay needs to reach the SF and Mark to reach the final to give us the 2 more top 500 players required.

Step 1 negotiated successfully. They have been drawn in opposite halves!

Let's at least get to 19 and the brink. Then hang around there for months

Are there any of the other contenders for top 500 in action this week? Ie are all hopes pinned here or could anyone else make it with a good performance elsewhere?

That is probably the worst draw Mark can get. A seeded player, who is comfortable on clay..

I haven't fully checked but I think Leo Borg getting a WC and the 8th seed spot denied Mark a seeding

Though I see that Leo is in Jay's quarter so if Mark had been in that draw spot then he and Jay would have been in the same quarter.

Hey ho.
