Week 20 - ITF M25 - Gurb, Spain (clay)

QR1:  Pau Bosch (ESP) UNR vs Freddy Humphries UNR

QR1:  Robert Watzka (ESP) UNR vs (q14) Zach Stephens WR 1969 (CH = 1862 last month)

Felix Gil should be in the main draw.

For anyone who's interested (I was intrigued by the name, which I'd never come across before!), Gurb is on the outskirts of Barcelona.

Might sound harsh and I hope he's OK but I'm always seriously unimpressed by someone who retires one game from the end:

FQR: (q3) Xavi Matas (ESP) WR 962 def. (q14) Zach Stephens (age 16) WR 1969 6-0 5-1 Ret.

Yes  when it's one game from a thrashing too. See it out and let the winner finish the job properly unless by some chance there is truly a pretty serious issue.

So if you beat the top seed, there is no reason you shouldn't win the title.

Bob gets his ranking points calculator out.

Except that he'll have to face Dan Cukierman in the QF:

L16:  Felix Gill WR 574 defeated (Q) Noah Lopez (SUI) WR 1057 by 5 & 2

*****

QF:  Felix Gill WR 574 vs (5) Daniel Cukierman (ISR) WR 358 (CH = 351 last month)

I like Dan C a lot - he's a really nice guy

And a REAL clay court battler, darn difficult to beat

I didn't think Felix would win - it wasn't you spooking him, Bob
