In the Victorian Open, play was abandoned with no shots hit on day one due to the heavy rain in Melbourne.

In the Victorian Open, Alfie won in 3 sets and Gordon in 2, both move to the semis:

Alfie v Gustavo Fernandez
Gordon v Martin de la Puente

In doubles, second seeded Lucy + lost in a shocking QF result 0 and 2; Andy and Greg, seeded top , are 4-6 4-5 down in their QF.

Looks like its been a generally slow start for the GB wheelchair players, Alfie and Gordon apart.

Alfie and Gordon both lost their semis to end what has not been the best of weeks for the Brits down under.

The events ratchet up next week with the Super Series Melbourne Open, before the AO the week after - certainly better to have your poor week at the start; largely the same players move on to the next event, so hopefully our guys have got tighter, fitter and learnt a little and can do better across the piece.

Lucy Shuker and Cornelia Oosthuizen appear in a 25 player womens draw.

Alfie is seeded 2 and Gordon 5 in a 31 player mens draw which sees Oda playing as top seed, with a bye.

For the AO, British entries are-:

Quad - Andy is in the main draw; Greg has a wildcard into qualifying
Womens - Lucy is in the main draw, Cornelia is into qualifying
Mens - Alfie and Gordon are both in the main draw, Alfie will be seeded 2 - I am presuming there are 4 seeds in each singles draw

Lucy went on to lose the womens doubles final.

Alfie plays Oda in the mens singles final tomorrow in what could be a preview of AO things to come.

Very tough final in the mens singles as Oda beat Alfie 6-0 4-6 6-4 in 3 hours 33 mins.

Good effort but shows how strong Oda is.

On to, well, Melbourne,  for the AO taking place this next week.

Wheelchair singles draws out for the Aus Open

Quad - qualies - Greg Slade plays Q1, Leandro Pena from Brazil
Womens - qualies - Cornelia Oosthuizen is Q2 and plays Charlotte Fairbank of South Africa

Quad singles main draw - Andy Lapthorne is unseeded and has drawn a qualifier (the qualies is a 4 player draw and one win takes a player through)

Womens singles - Lucy Shuker was a wildcard and has drawn a fellow non seed in Montjane of South Africa

Mens singles - Gordon is unseeded and plays a tough opener against Belgiums former champ Joachim Gerard. Alfie is seeded 2 and also has a tough opener versus Frenchman, Stephane Houdet - Houdet is 54 and may well be the oldest player taking park in any event at this AO?
