The BBC report after the singles mentioned that Cam was ill and had not been able to practice at all in the lead up to the match. He basically ran out of steam/fitness as a result after the first set versus Berretini. Sounds like he may have had it in Auckland, if you recall he crashed out there in a very surprising and easy loss.
