Other events, 2025 - week 7

There's an important J100 event in South Africa for our younger players: a big GB turnout in the boys

R1:

(q) Niall Pickerd-Barua (age 14) won, 6-2 1-6 6-2

(3) Rhys Lawlor (age 15) won, 6-2 6-2

(q) Scott Watson (age 14) won, 6-0 6-3

Kasra Shirazi (age 15) won, 6-3 6-0

Unfortunately, Eric Lorimer had to retire at one set all

Ophelia K Davies is also second seed in the girls, match to come

I assume Niall is part of the Loughborough touring party as he was never going to get in by ranking.

He got in as of right, on his ranking

As above, he was a qualifier, and 6th seed in qualifying (he's ranked 2185 which was fine for qualis)

 2185 gets into a J100 qualifier wow...

I thought the cut off would have been much higher...

I think it's partly because there are SO many big events going on at the moment

J500 in Egypt, J300 and J200s over South America way, a J100 in Kenya, as well as this one in South Africa. Some of the U16s are in Winter Cup too.

You could just turn up for the J500 in Egypt and get into qualis - there were tons of BYEs
