The third J500 of the year has a fairly strong field, with Allegra Korpanec Davies claiming the last of the 16 seeded positions, and fortunate to be in the same section as 2 wildcards and a qualifier, though the qualifier beat her earlier in the month. Flora Johnson has also selected to play here rather than Aldershot to try to garner points to make the Roland Garros cut. A second J500 doubles title would certainly improve her chances.

R1 (L64)
(WC) Gloria Reusch (GER) v (16) Allegra Korpanec Davies
Flora's loss against an accomplished home seed was no surprise, but Allegra followed suit, which is disappointing. Their chance of good points therefore rests with the doubles, where they are both (with different partners) low seeds

Korpanec Davies getting the last seed could be huge, even if that earlier loss to the qualifier adds a bit of tension. On paper, its a section she should navigate, but junior draws rarely stay tidy. Flora Johnson website choosing Offenbach over Aldershot feels like a clear statement of intent. Chasing Roland Garros points is always a gamble, but the upside here is real. If she can string together a solid singles run and back it up in doubles, it could pay off quickly. The first round matchups are no gifts either, especially against a home German crowd.
