Boys & Girls: Tennis Europe Under 14 Junior International Raynes Park - Category 1 (Week 24)

This event provides a guaranteed place for the winners in the Wimbledon under 14 invitational.  Although the main draws start on Tuesday comment has already been made on qualifying in one of last week's threads, so I will start this now, and copy in those comments.  Milica Milojevic and Grace Watson are likely to be among the top seeds in the girls event, though both claimed their Wimbledon spots in the recent event at the East Gloucestershire club.

All the draws can be found when available (just qualifying at present) on Tennis Europe

Live scores are available here

I see new Gb player Lily Haley got a 12-10 MTB win!

Does anyone have any other names to look out for (that haven't been mentioned particularly on this forum before)?

The main draws are now on the Tennis Europe website (link from post 1). Lily Haley was amongst the qualifiers, with Milica and Grace seeded 2 and 3. None of the British boys are seeded

Sakino Miyazawa is a really exciting young player to watch - comes to the net all the time, great hands, it's all a bit funky

On day 1 nearly all the seeds progressed, the only exception being that Sasha Zlotnik took out the girls 7th seed, thus ensuring a British semi-finalist in the bottom section of the draw

5 British girls reach the quarter-finals, including wins over minor seeds for Judy Zhang, Dasha Jones and April Sackflame. A complete wipeout for the boys though.

Girls QF

(1) Sakino Miyazawa (JPN) v Yanziye Zhang
(3) Grace Watson v (8) Julia Ehrenberger (AUT)
Dasha Jones v (4) Emilia Henningsen (DEN)
April Sackflame v (2) Milica Sakamoto Milojevic

Oskar Laskowski did really well in my opinion to take the top Greek seed TE No 1 to 3 sets and I believe was 4-3 up in the second set. Oskar I think is a year young for this event.

I notice a newer name Philip Neuez has reached the QFs of 12U West Hants - didn't he win the 11U Grass Nationals last week so he must be a year young? Any info on him anyone?

Fine wins for Dasha and April gives us an unseeded all-Brit semi. If Grace were to beat the outstanding top seed (winner of the Bolton Cat 1 event in January followed by reaching the semis in Les Petits As) then the winner between Dasha and April would have a Wimbledon place, as Grace has already booked hers.

Girls QF

(1) Sakino Miyazawa (JPN) d. Yanziye Zhang 6-3 6-1
(3) Grace Watson d. (8) Julia Ehrenberger (AUT) 6-1 6-7 6-1
Dasha Jones d. (4) Emilia Henningsen (DEN) 6-3 7-5
April Sackflame d. (2) Milica Sakamoto Milojevic 6-1 6-0

SF

(1) Sakino Miyazawa (JPN) v (3) Grace Watson
Dasha Jones v April Sackflame

Well done to all three girls, but especially April and Dasha who are a year younger

Grace found Sakino too strong and unfortunately Dasha retired from the other semi, leaving April to take on the top seed.

SF

(1) Sakino Miyazawa (JPN) d. (3) Grace Watson 6-2 6-1
April Sackflame d. Dasha Jones 2-6 7-6(5) 2-0 rtd

F

(1) Sakino Miyazawa (JPN) v April Sackflame

Not surprised that Sakino beat Grace so easily - nothing against Grace but Sakino is a really talented ball player who other players her age find really challenging because it's quite an unusual game style - she might not develop into anything later but at the moment it's something else

Huge congrats to April - we talked a lot about her in nationals where she really impressed

Can't see her having any chance tomorrow but she has a very attractive game

Do hope Dasha is OK
