Only 13 players were in the qualifying draw, which meant just four FQR matches were played plus a walkover. Probably explains why the main draw has been released earlier than expected.

Jodie is also entered for the doubles with her friend Olivia Gadecki - and should be top seeds.

Hopefully with how weak the draw is Jodie can get some win under her belt before Us open qualifying.

Was 5-2 up with a double break. Has completely lost the plot now 6-5 down. Her opponent is not all that either. I cant see Jodie getting anywhere near her previous ranking and wonder how much longer she will want to put herself through this. Lets hope after this post she goes on to win easily.

Jeezo this is awful. But she's not even doing anything to try and correct the situation or dig in. She's just gone in a mood and is stomping about hitting the ball miles out.

She was *30-0 up at *5-4, and *40-0 up at *5-6. Fortunately she's stopped the rot at seven games.

*1-2

Broken again from game point up. Usui has only won one pro match this year (in a handful of events) and is not a highly rated junior, so this is just a stinker.

1-3*

All her opponent has to do is get the ball into the court and she will either put it in the net or a mile out. Can hear her constantly moaning at the coach but she just served 2 double faults to go 4-2 down.

Managed to get a break when her opponent was serving for the match. Now has to hold serve to stay in it

Is handed a break back with a double, goes up *40-15 wastes both game points with poor play. Gets a third, nets a backhand. Double faults, nets another backhand.

Loses 7-5 6-4. Not sure whether the performance or the attitude was worse. That's an absolute shocker.

And gets broken to lose in straight sets. Absolutely shocking performance. Her opponent is not in the top 1000 and plays like it.

whiich is why it does not always work advising a player to play at a lower level.

Always followed Jodie but today was shocking. Unless there's some sort of improvement I wouldn't be surprised if she considers whether its worth calling it a day. Much like Harriet she seems to get no enjoyment at all from playing the game.

So I have some sympathy with this but a 50 isn't a lower level for a player of Jodie's ranking. It's really the exact level of event she should be playing (especially as there's nothing else for her to play this week). This is just not a typical 50 field because of where we are in the calendar and a heap of late withdrawals. Which makes it even worse.

I do agree that for a player 150-200 playing "down" (which at that ranking means 15s to me, I don't think it's unusual for someone in that zone to be sprinkling 35s into their schedule) in the hope of some easy wins and confidence is very much a double edged swords.

I don't think this is case of deliberately scheduling a lower tournament, this is just standard sensible scheduling but she's playing poorly.
