Mixed results in the girls as Meg Knight's rather disappointing showing in ITFs continues - maybe the move of academy is taking a while to settle in (although my feelings about the guy are well-known)

However, super clutch result for Dani Britton - she beat the girl who is now JR 97, and who won last week's title

In the boys, Rhys lost easily. But Mark won.

Boys: R2

(1) Flynn Thomas (SUI) def. Rhys Lawlor 6-1 6-1

(3) Mark Ceban def. Stan Put (NED) 7-5 6-3

Girls: R2

Daniella Britton def. (5) Polina Skliar (UKR) 4-6 6-4 7-5

Sofia Barhacova (SVK) def. (8) Megan Knight 6-4 6-3

Daniella takes on the strong 15 year old top seed next. Mark edged past his quarter-final opponent narrowly earlier in the month. Only Megan+ won their first round doubles out of the Brits.

Boys QF

(3) Mark Ceban v (7) Damien Clerc (FRA)

Girls QF

(1) Ida Wobker (GER) v Daniella Britton

If Mark can get the title this week, i calculate he should move to around 1030 points; Oli will lose around 16.75 doubles points from Mexico last year and be on 1090. With action next week for Mark ( is he in Norway again) he could have a chance to take top British junior boy spot over the next couple of weeks - and before end of the year.

I may have my maths hopelessly wrong so apologise in advance !

That said, I cant see Mark in any more events. So he may top out at 1030 ish. Oli loses 180 doubles points, at 25 percent, and 30 singles points , so 75 in total before season end. So he will drop to just over 1033. So , in fact, even if Mark wins this week, I dont think he can catch Oli, if he doesnt play again in juniors this season.

I am on my phone so working maths out haphazardly, hence the uncertainty!

Lets try this properly!

Oli is on 1105.75 and loses 30 singles and 45 doubles = 1030.75

Mark is on 864.75. A win here is presumably 200 but he loses 36 off his counters that it replaces, so nett 164 gain = 1028.75

So just 2 points short. If he doesnt play again!

Meg is still really young and is stepping up to play to juniors in bigger junior events. It will take a little time to get use to the level.

Saying that, she will be on the cusp of the top 100 in the new year, when the older girls drop off.

Yes, you're right, Paulisi, she is really young, I'm not meaning a criticism of her

But she stepped up to start playing J200s in April this year (and hasn't gone back down again)

So she's had 6 months of playing at this level and only this level - I'm not sure how long you think a 'little time to get used' to it should be but 6 months seems quite long, no?

Her 'problem' is, of course, that she won the title in her second J200, again in April.

Hence expectations etc

But since then she's lost in the third round once, and in the first or second round every other time - you expect a certain inconsistency at this age but that's eight events losing in round one or two - it's great that the team events went better because otherwise it would look a little worrying for her confidence etc

I can just about cope with one third-set TB loss - but TWO is more than my poor stomach can manage

Huge well done to Dani Britton for taking the top seed to a third set TB, though

And shame for Mark - especially when Jon had done all those sums smileno

Meg+ lost in doubles too ...

Boys QF

(3) Mark Ceban LOST to (7) Damien Clerc (FRA)  6-0  2-6  7-6(8)

Girls QF

(1) Ida Wobker (GER) def. Daniella Britton  4-6  6-1 7-6(4)
