R3
(1) Anastasis Mosaikos (CYP) v (13) Liam Sharkey
Yanru Li (CHN) v (6) Frederick Fabricius
(8) Luca Sageder (AUT) v Max Hodkinson
A superb result for Liam, beating the top seed to keep British interest going in singles (Fred + Oskar are in the doubles semis). Tomorrow Liam is second on court 1 (first match at 9.30 GMT)
Boys R3
(13) Liam Sharkey d. (1) Anastasis Mosaikos (CYP) 3-6 7-5 6-3
Yanru Li (CHN) d. (6) Frederick Fabricius 6-3 6-0
(8) Luca Sageder (AUT) d. Max Hodkinson 6-3 6-4
A convincing win for Liam, who is the next to take on the unseeded European based Chinese boy who dismissed Fred's challenge summarily, and is yet to drop a set. Their match is the second on court 1 tomorrow (first at 9.30am GMT)
Thanks for the stream DavidC. Liam plays a flawless first set to take it 6-0. Not seen him play before but I like his game, very fluid and gets very good depth on his shots (and natural pace).
A comfortable win for Liam, who was never troubled on serve, aided by having a slight edge on power and being prepared to come to the net to finish off rallies. He becomes the first British finalist here since 2017 when Jack Pinnington Jones beat Joel Pierleoni (Jack Draper was a previous finalist)
Liam's points have been added on and he is now Tennis Europe U14 number 1 in both the race rankings (race to Monte Carlo in October for the Masters event) and current overall rankings. Oskar Laskowski, Fred Fabricius and Dasha Jones are all just inside the top 10 of the current rankings, whilst Fred, Ginny Chen and April Sackflame are all top 5 in the race rankings. Most of the events counting so far in the race are indoors where Brits tend to fare slightly better than on outdoor clay (most of the ones to come this year)
