Below is the list of the British male players who have reached the ATP top 5, up to date:
Greg Rusedski reached world No. 4 in October 1997, becoming the first British man to break into the ATP top five
Tim Henman reached world No. 5 in July 1999 and later a career-high No. 4 in 2002
Andy Murray reached the ATP top five in September 2008 and later became world No.1
Jack Draper reached a career-high world No. 4 on 9 June 2025, making him the latest British man to enter the ATP top 5
It would be lovely to see a Brit breaking into the top 5 in the rankings, but only two players are knocking on the top 20 right now: Norrie and Draper.
If Jack can stay consistently injury free, I believe he'll be back in the top 5. Probably our main standout prospect of a slam contender for now.
But I'd be delighted if we just managed to have a few more Cam Norrie's - an excellent if underrated career with a Masters title, a slam semifinal and quarterfinal and consistently in the top 30 for years. Am hopeful that Jake could become that player if he regains his mojo, and maybe JPJ/Toby/Arthur if they manage to move to the next level.
Re current players it's overall, particularly in depth, a historically very good crop. Though other than Jack possibly returning to the top 5 I dont see any as potential top 5 players.
Per Indy, and CD, ever is a long time - yes we will and Jack is the only male prospect that is possible to see right now making it (back) to the top 5. Stay injury free going forwards and he will make it back. My guess is by the end of 2027, we will see him top 5 again.
Top 5 players arent built by a system so cant be manufactured - but if we create the numbers going into the sausage machine, we have more change of a tasty Cumberland popping out of the machine in due course. Who it will be and when, we just dont know
