Boys & Girls: 14U Lexus Grass Court Championships, Gloucestershire (Week 21)

The significance of this event is that the all the finalists win a place at the Wimbledon under 14 invitational  The boys draw is here, featuring our top two TE ranked boys Liam Sharkey and Oskar Laskowski, but no sign of Fred Fabricius

The girls draw is here, featuring two of our top four TE ranked girls Ginny Chen and Isabella Rebel, but missing Dasha Jones (who is on the list for the Raynes Park qualifier in 2 weeks time) and April Sackflame (playing ITFs in Sweden)

I don't know all that many players but it seems a real shame that Bella Rebel and Kaya Stojsavljevic have drawn each other in R1

Bella comfortably saw off Mika's sister, and there were straight set wins for the other top 2 seeds, Liam, Oskar and Ginny. Bella is in the same quarter as Coco Witton, who was highlighted in another thread by Rose

Top seed Ginny Chen was upset today by Evie Pritchard amidst carnage for the seeded girls. The boys seeds are largely intact though, joined possibly by Fraser Newcombe, who combines two great Aussie stars of a bygone age.

Boys QF

(1) Liam Sharkey v Maxim Sokol
Jonah Harmer v (8) Cameron Rae
(7) Caleb Griffith or Fraser Newcombe v (3) Max Hodkinson
(5) Will Morgan v (2) Oskar Laskowski

Girls QF

Evie Pritchard v (Q) Darcey Osborne
Iris Grosso v (6) Nishta Kesavan
(Q) Beatrice Robson v Naina Kapoor
Coco Witton v (2) Isabella Rebel

I saw Ginny Chen play live a few weeks back

It's tidy, technially decent, a nice game

But it's all a little laboured

But, yes, that's a bit of a bloodbath for the seeds

And - hopefully - will give the bods pause for reflection

Ginnys another one that was recognised and invested in early and put on a bit of a pedestal. Is still good but is another Sevil. Was always going to be overtaken. Evie trains at Nottingham with Coco and there is a constant friendly rivalry between them. Evie is more inconsistent but when shes on it has a great aggressive game. Both her and Coco are working towards national academy places ( I believe Kaya is on track too) Nottingham RPDC have got some very good players coming through

Sorry, but I don't like the kids who don't play their consolation matches

In this case, Edie and Max (so far)

It always strikes me as sulking

The 12U Grass National titles at the AELTC went to Conrad Gho and Diana Florence (younger sister of Sophia)
Great win in particular for Diana (pronounced DeeArna) who beat both Isla Skeates (1) and Victoria Florea (2) to take the title

11U titles went to Henry Momot and Natalia Balanel.

out of the 11U girls, I like the way Jaela Jarvis plays. Lost to Harriet Graham (who I think is going to be another Sevil, will win a lot until 14U) but reminds me of Mika at that age. Brave aggressive player who sees the shot and goes for it (but misses too much at the moment!)

Noone in 11U boys is really standing out to me at the moment but theres a few to watch
