Boys & Girls: J30 Manchester, GB - grass (Week 24)

Always nice to see the lower ranked juniorson grass too

BOYS

Top 4 seeds: Jayden Mitchell, Alex Winder, Casey Unitt, Brandon Ratanavong

Wildcards: Leon Bekker, Dominik Czopek, Oskar Laskowski, Liam Sharkey

Qualifiers: Toby Shaw, Callum Sharkey, Callum Hooper, ROU

LL: Caelan Mckechnie

The good thing with the boys is that half the R1 matches were played yesterday - and the three foreign lads were all beaten - so it's now an all-GB draw, even at R2

GIRLS

Top 4 seeds: BRA, Sophie Johnstone, Daisy Wootton, CAN

Wildcards: Nishta Kesavan, Beatrice Robson, Sophia Cuninghame, Lola Brown

Qualifiers: Lily Haley, Sacha Zlotnik, Freya Walters, Isabella Makuch

The Brazilian top seed is 13 year-old Eduarda Gomes, JR 372, who is one of the very top ITF players for her age - she was playing at the 14U Raynes Park Wimbly 14U Championship qualifier event too - Brazilian girls tennis is doing extremely well at the moment

Naina Kapoor beat 3rd seed, Daisy Wootton, very easily

13 year-old Kate Murray is going strong

The Indian girl who very much impressed me and Rose says may well be changing tennis nationalities has had to give a walkover in her QF so the young highly ranked Brazilian top seed is into the SF

Girls QF

(1) BRA v IND

Naina Kapoor v Mila Angrave

(wc) Beatrice Robson v Kate Murray

(2) Sophie Johnstone v (q) Lily Haley

A big result for 14 year-old qualifier, Lily Haley, who beat the 17 year-old 2nd seed. Lily switched from South Africa last year some time, with a high junior ranking, and then didn't have much in the way of results for a while. Nice to see it coming together.

Beatrice Robson (also 14) was obviously a wonderful choice of wildcard - this is her first proper junior event so she's doing very well

Mila is only 14 too

Girls SF

(1) BRA v Mila Angrave

(wc) Beatrice Robson v (q) Lily Haley

Boys SF

(8) Neo Armus v Louis Stewart

(3) Casey Unitt v (2) Alex Winder

Bravo to Mila !!!

Mila is JR 2296, and she just beat Eduarda Gomes, same age, JR 372 , 6-1 6-3

That's an easy victory over someone about 2000 places higher ranked !!!!!!!!!!

Lily who used to be one of the top 2012-ers and has not competed for a while and dropped out of the rankings has come all the way through to make the final

FINAL:

(q) Lily Haley (2012) v Mila Angrave (2012)

In the dubs final, Sophie Johnstone & Mia Tinsley take on CAN /BRA

Huges congrats to our singles title winners, Mila and Neo

And to Jaydan & Jacob in the doubles

GIRLS' FINAL: Mila Angrave def. Lily Haley 6-1 6-2

A huge title for 14 year-old Mila - this is 30 points and her previous highest counter is 5 !

She's carved her way through this draw - having a little difficult with one American girl but otherwise making it look remarkably easy, including the very highly ranked top seed

I will now go and look up more about her

BOYS' FINAL: Neo Armus def. Casry Unitt 6-1 4-1 ret.

BOYS' Dubs Final: Jaydan Mitchell & Jacob Blacker-Rose def. Tom Dixon & Charlie Woods 7-6(5) 6-2

Sophie and Mia lost the girls' doubles title to te BRA/CAN pair

Very surprising result but well done to her. Shes a Warwickshire player and has played Tennus Europes and nationals. Had a couple of good individual singles match results (beat Kate Murray on grass recently) but nothing special or outstanding to date. WTN and UTR reflect that. Shes made the odd quarter final. However the family is quite serious about tennis and she trains a lot. Looks like its all coming together for her
