Horrible, horrible draw for Lee. Feel really gutted for him after such a good run last week.
Pequery is beatable though, he's ranked 265 and Lee has beaten lots of higher ranked players. Pequery will be playing his first match indoors since April so hopefully the greater speed of the courts will give him problems adjusting. He hasn't played since losing to Goodall in USO qualies.
Aswell as Goodall, Pequery has lost to Baker [1 and 4 indoors in Jan], Boggo [several times]
Lee put up a really, really good fight, but was edged out by the narrowest of margins in a match lasting 2 hours and 14min.
Rd1: J Pequery [Fr][1] bt L Childs [GB] 7-6[5], 7-6[5]
Pequery served 18 aces to Childs' 12 but 7 double faults to 3 from Childs. Lee got 62% 1st serves and Pequery got 52%. Childs won 43/55 points on his 1st serve and 15/33 on his 2nd serve. Pequery was just that little bit more solid winning 35/42 points on his 1st serve and 20/38 on his 2nd serve. Pequery missed 2 bps in the 1st set in which there were no breaks. There were just 2 breaks overall and those came in set 2 where Lee took 1/2 bps and Pequery took his only chance. Pequery won 85 out of 168 points overall and Lee won 83.
