Well with Tim out of Tokyo, and not playing next week, it's time to look at the threats for next week. I make it 19 players could overtake this week, but luckily none can do so in the first round.
Wawrinka, Mayer & Soderling advance: Wawrinka is just one win from overtaking now.
No- one can overtake today, but it's worth watching out for:
Moya who overtakes if he reaches the quarters in Vienna;
Massu, Lee & Benneteau, who need to reach the finals in Stockholm, Moscow & Moscow.
More remote threats are: Santoro, Ram- Ham, Mathieu, Bjorkman, Mayer, Johansson & Clementwho need to reach finals, Srichaphan, Gicquel, Mirnyi, Safin & Kohlschreiber who need to win.
Eight out of that 17 can overtake, which would knock Tim down to 48th Best case is that none of them do!
Chela and Almagro go out ahead of Tim, and Massu, Lee(!), Ram- Ham and Mathieu go out from behind him so a good day at the office!
However, Vliegen, Benneteau, Bjorkman, Clement & Gicquel advance
The biggest threat left today is Carlos Moya who won his first round match yesterday, and who will overtake if he beats Fernando Gonzales this evening. Pins into Carlos!!
Wawrinka will overtake if he wins his second round match tomorrow.
There's now only 12 threats left this week, but still a maximum of eight who can overtake Tim.
Mixed fortunes for Tim in Moscow today so far: closest threat Santoro is now just 5 points behind him after beating Kohlschreiber. This does at least mean that Kohlscreiber is no longer in the running, and nor is Mirnyi, who lost to Davydenko.
In the evening matches, Clement is a set down against Boggo's competitor, Kunitsyn, and Safin is at one set all against Tipsarevic.
The table's updated. There's no- one left above Tim now.
Soderling goes up off the top and into Murray world.
Rochus, Vliegen, Melzer and Wawrinka go out ahead of Tim.
Clement, Mirnyi and Kohlschreiber go out behind.
Santoro and Safin advance.
The worst case scenario is now for Santoro to beat Davydenko in the semis in Moscow tomorrow, while Safin beats Kunitsyn. Then for Safin to beatSantoro in the final. If that happens, Tim's down 2 more places to 43. So we need Davydenko to win the tournament if Tim's to stay on 41..
