Entries Week 11 - 12/3

Is Ghana really a FIFTEEN K?

If so, Seator could really cash in!

The descriptions I have seen on drawsheets include:

Red clay (e.g. RG, also known as 'terre battue'), green clay (also called Har-Tru and used a lot in the US), crushed dung ('merde battue' to the French? )

Hard, Cement, Rebound Ace (e.g. AO), DecoTurf (e.g. USO)

Grass, Synthetic grass (e.g. Dublin Challenger, also known as Outdoor Carpet!)

Indoor Hard, Carpet, Indoor Clay (usually Har-Tru, i.e. green clay), Indoor Greenset (e.g. Cherbourg Challenger)

... and now we have the wonderfully named "Indoor - Spuckturf" at the week 10 Kyoto Challenger to add to the list.

I wasn't sure which thread to put this on, but it seems well worth mentioning that Andy's win against Tommy Haas was the 15th British men's singles win against a higher-ranked overseas player this week, c.f. just 7 losses to lower ranked non-Brits.

I've been following this stat for over a year now, and 15 upsets in GB's favour in a week is completely unprecedented as far as I can remember - usually we have more upset losses than wins too.

The roll of honour this week is:

Indian Wells R4: (13) Andy Murray WR 14 beat (4) Nikolay Davydenko (RUS) WR 4 by 7-6(3) 6-4
Indian Wells QF: (13) Andy Murray WR 14 beat (9) Tommy Haas (GER) WR 9 by 3-6 6-3 7-6(8)

Sunderland QR2: Scott Dickson UNR beat (q1) Sascha Kloer (GER) WR 684 by 4-6 6-3 7-5
Sunderland QR2: (q12) Edward Allinson WR 1525 beat (q8) Dmitry Frumkin (RUS) WR 1313 by 1 & 0

Sale QR3: (q10) Simon Childs WR 1525 beat (q4) Huai-En Chang (TPE) WR 1267 by 7-6(4) 6-2
Sale R1: (Q) Simon Childs WR 1525 beat (LL) Bonit Wiryawan (INA) WR 1360 by 7-5 7-6(3)
Sale R2: Myles Blake WR 841 beat Matthew Ebden (AUS) WR 804 by 2 & 2

Accra R1: (Q) Edward Seator WR 1096 beat (3) Komlavi Loglo (TOG) WR 401 by 7-6(5) 2-6 6-1

Ramat Hasharon QR3: Kyle Brassington UNR beat (q11) Laurent Vigne (FRA) WR 1192 by 2-6 5-2 ret.
Ramat Hasharon R2: Chris Eaton WR 878 beat (4) Dekel Valtzer (ISR) WR 503 by 6-3 4-6 7-6(4)

Montréal QR1: Luke Campbell UNR beat Gregory Gumbs (FRA) WR 1197 by 4 & 3
Montréal QR2: Miles Kasiri WR 1411 beat (q14) Nicolas Santos (BRA) WR 1056 by 7-6(6) 7-6(4)
Montréal QR3: Miles Kasiri WR 1411 beat (q5) Luca Rovetta (ITA) WR 929 by 4 & 3
Montréal R1: Miles Kasiri WR 1411 beat Matej Bocko (SVK) WR 687 by 6-4 6-7(6) 6-1

Badalona QR2: Alexander Ward UNR beat Mario Cuellar-Gonzalez (ESP) WR 1411 by 7-6(5) 6-3

Obviously, Miles being under-ranked due to injury has helped here, but with no contribution to this from Challengers or Jamie's run to the Sunderland Final (he is the no. 2 seed so hasn't had to beat anyone higher-ranked), it becomes clear that some of ou lower-ranked players have been having an unusually good week in overseas Futures.
