Akhenaten, your posts are priceless!

Can we at least believe the scores?

Of course the scores are correct.  I'm not just making this stuff you know.

Here's the link...

It's amazing how Adjei- Darko's performances have improved since he started working with his new coach last year. Is it true that the Ghanaan Lawn Tennis Association is paying for half of his massive fees?

Yes it's true, Adjei-Darko's progress since he joined up with Wally Masur has been extra-ordinary, culminating in him taking the Nigeria F2 title just last week (including his first ever win over The Log).

No details of the deal between the GTA and Masur have ever been disclosed, but an amazing 500,000 Cedi salary (plus a life-time supply of Chunky Peanut Butter Kit Kats) has been rumoured.

And Wally does seem to have put on weight lately, so my guess there is much truth in the rumour.

Following Ed Seator's sensational victory over The Log, he now faces a French plumber called Frank in round 2.

It's nice to see the less established tennis nations such as France doing so well at these big tournaments.  Komlavi Loglo put it succinctly when he said, "The French have the desire we Africans sometimes lack - they long to escape their drudgy lives - being a French postman must be simply awful."

Yesterday, I had a lovely evening sitting by the bank of the River Volta with Boy Westerhof, watching Bogdan cram his speedboat full of camels, chinchillas and chameleons.  Very relaxing - good karma as they say.

Boy says it's inspired him to write a song - though I have serious doubts that "The Happy Camel" will ever be much of a hit.

Just to clear up the rest of the day's play. A day of startling results...
 - A French waiter called Antoine caused a massive upset beating the top seed Craciun 7-5 6-0
 - Craciun's Romanian doubles partner and 2nd seed, Moraru, came through a tough match 7-5 7-5
 - Preg Rusevski, the proud Macedonian, served his opponent out of the park with an easy 6-2 6-1 win.

Big Preg cruises to victory

Preg Rusevski dressed in his now infamous Macedonian flag shorts destroyed Ash Singh 6-3 6-4, setting up a potentially intriguing quarter-final with Ghana's own Henry Adjei-Darko.

After taking the first set, Preg astonished an agog and frankly astonished world, by proposing to his Macedonian girlfriend, Tracie, live on TV to an astonished world.  The world as I've indicated was truly astonished.

However, Tracie missed the proposal as she was busy making an astonishingly dire film entitled "Life on tour by a tennis WAG" for the MBC.

NB. A French postman called Eric has also reached the Quarters.

Astonishing.

International News

Following Rusevski's win, an irate and frankly jealous Alaskan State Government warned the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia that unless Rusevski returned to play tennis for Alaska, then it will be forced to take serious action against the said nation.

I'm reminded of Boy Westerhof's lovely lament, "All war is stupid", and hope both parties hold hands and start singing songs of love and peace.

NB. Tracie has excepted Preg's marriage proposal.  Awwwwww...

Doubles round-up

In the doubles, the formidable partnership of Henry Adjei-Darko and Komvali Loglo cruised to victory against Chris Waddle, Glenn Hoddle & Steve McMahon 6-2 6-3.

Henry's brother, Quincy "Wicked Zinger Tower Burger Meal with a Tango & coleslaw" Adjei-Darko is desperate not to be overshadowed by his sibling, hoping to cement himself as a top doubles specialist.  However, he and his partner, Fumi, were unable to deliver in their first round match; losing badly 6-2 6-4 to Amsterdam's celebrated druggy/TV duo, Boy Westerhof & Bart Beks.

This sets up a fascinating quarter-final - Boy'n'Bart vs Darko & The Log.

R2: (Q) Edward Seator WR 1096 lost to Franck Dalla-Santa (FRA) WR 1525 by 3 & 4

Such a pity that Edward was unable to turn that one point into three against Dalla Santa, who had just one ranking point before this week but had also shocked a top 700 player in R1 here.

The Last Ghanaian Falls

The last Ghanaian crashed out of the Ghana F1 singles on Thursday. It looked to be going so well for Henry Adjei-Darko as he eased to the first set 6-1, against his teenage opponent, Hans Podlipnik-Castillo.  It was around this time that Wally Masur, Darko's coach, started acting erratically in the players box - shouting and screaming at any Ghanaian in his vicinity.  This obviously put poor Henry off, and he ended up losing the match 1-6 6-4 6-4.

After the match, the reason for Wally’s outburst was revealed; he’d just been told the true value of the Ghanaian Cedi – 17,000 to the British pound. So Wally’s half a million salary, was in fact just £28.64 per year.  Poor old Wally.

Still, he’s still got all those Chunky Peanut Butter Kit Kats…

NB.  A French plumber called Frank has also reached the Quarters.
