Going to be tough for Boggo with the surface change and so little time to get over the jetlag. Last year he had 3 extra days. Must be pretty knackered too after all those tough matches this week.
Definately not an easy rd1 draw, I wouldn't be surprised if he lost this one given the circumstances but lets hope not. Vacek is currently ranked 264 and at 30, he's past his best but he got as high as 61 back in 2002 so is still a dangerous opponent especially indoors. They've played twice before, Alex won an epic battle 4-6, 7-6(5), 7-5 in the Belgrade 50K back in 2005 but Vacek got his revenge on the grass of Manchester later that year, winning 6-3, 7-6 in the quarters. The last British player he faced was Alan Mackin last autumn, who beat him 6-4, 4-6, 6-0. He's won two futures this year but hasn't been up to it at challenger level, hopefully that continues here.
If Alex wins this one, I think he'll make the semis. Cervenak is another potential banana skin in rd2, I was very impressed by him in the Bratislava 100K last Nov where he made semis and beat some quality top 150 guys but I think his game will match up well for Alex.
Jones-Goodall is hard to predict. Jones is ranked 209 and won a 15K in Australia at the end of March and beat Gilles Muller in ATP Adelaide at the start of the year but he's yet to win a challenger match in 2007. Normally I'd think Josh would win this but he's making his comeback after a month out with a groin strain so how will he be playing.
Despite the 500 places ranking difference between the two, Rushby actually leads Bloomfield 2-1 in the head-to-heads ! All of the matches have been extremely close. Rushby won 7-6, 7-6 on grass in 2004 but Bloomfield got revenge 2-6, 7-6(10), 6-4 on fast indoor hard the following autumn. However, it was Rushby who won last September, defeating a below par Bloomfield 6-7, 6-3, 6-1. I don't see another upset this time but I think it'll be 3 sets
Smethurst has been pretty much thrown to the lion's den here !!! He's never even played a futures main draw match before ! He'll do well to get a couple of games off Oudsema
Of the wcs, Childs has the best chance of reaching rd2 on paper, he faces Aussie veteran Joseph Sirianni who's just inside the top 300. Sirianni made the semis of the Tasmania challenger in February and beat Jamie Baker indoors last month. However, Childs has been far from his best in 2007 and his serve and forehand aren't the weapons they once were.
not the eassiest draw for any of our chaps! tho boggo should get to the semis if he can recover from tiredness in time for his first round!
tsonga will prob stand in bloomers' way - wish he'd just stop getting injured, make the top 100, and leave all our players alone!!
Yeah it could be a lot better for Bloomers...Ryderstedt in rd2 won't be easy, that'll be a v close one, could go either way. Really bad luck to get drawn in Tsonga's quarter, I think he'll win the title here
who do we think will go the furthest of the 3? i would normally say boggo, but if he does well in valenica could be a qucik transition and i think bloomers has a great chance to go deep, and of the back of an extended indoor training period for the DC tie. i am not sure on goodalls form/indoor game.
will have to wait for the draws i guess. boggo v bloomers final would be nice
all 3 have a decent shot at making the quarters, going by the draw I'd have to pick Boggo to go the furthest. Although he'll be a bit jetlagged, confidence must be sky-high and he's so comfortable indoors.
Goodall has a great game for indoors but has been out for a month with the groin.
Should be interesting to see what the "DC effect" of being around Murray, Henman, Gilbert, Lundgren etc has on Bloomers...always seems to boost Jamie Baker's results
shame about May but he did well to get that close....no one was really expected to get through tho...that gap with noone ranked 400-900 really coming through atm, very apparent in challenger qualies

alex has a 4pm match. wont give him too much time. early trip over, quick knock to get used to the courts. i thint khey could have given him a bit longer, its indoors afterall. Hopefully he can scrap a win then get a day off. (is it a sat or sun final?)

I can only assume that it is a Saturday final like most of the British challengers are, and in that case, Boggo has to play tomorrow, or he would be playing twice on 1 day.
All he needs to do is somehow get the win, as I presume he will be put on as late as possible for a couple of days to allow him to get used to the courts, and to recover from the trip over (looks like Tsonga has the same thing, as he is on late as well)
Partly through injury, partly because he only won 4 matches from March to the beginning of this year (all of them in the UK), so he simply would not have been picking up any points
He won a challenger at the beginning of 2006 as well, so the 80 points he had there would have fallen off as well, and so he shot down the rankings (he only has 6 tournaments where he has more than 1 ranking point from)
