Great win for Myles, Menchini is one of these US collegiate players, always a lot tougher than it appears on paper
Myles now faces Ecuadorian 2nd seed Julio-Cesar Campozano for a place in the main draw. It'll be a tough match as Campozano is ranked around 300 places higher at 543 and he made the quarters of USA F7 last week.
However, British interest in this tournament isn't finished yet.......as the Baker boy is in town !
He's stepping down a level this week to 10Ks, to try and get some wins under his belt before a series of challengers in North and South America.
He has a great first round draw against American wildcard Peter Schults, ranked 758. Schults has gained just 2 ranking points so far this year, both from wins against players outside the top 1000. However, he can be a tricky opponent on his day as he showed last October when he reached a 10K final in Mexico.
American prodigy Donald Young is unseeded and in Jamie's quarter. They could meet in the last 8 which would be an intriguing match.
Ken's favourite Sam Warburg is top seed....shame radio tennis aren't covering this tourney
I think that Baker should be able to beat Young. Young has a lot of difficulty in stringing together a run of wins - he has been to the last four of a Futures only twice in his lifetime!
He should be sticking to Challengers, where he'll get more points by winning a round than he'll get by reaching the quarters of a 15K.
Draw is pretty good for Jamie considering that the cut is so high. Polansky, Warburg, Nishikori and Lindahl are all in the other half.
