Grass Season Wild Cards.

Who do you think should get the wild cards into Surbiton, Queen's and Nottingham?

Surbiton - 4 wild cards - cut off around 200.
Queen's - 5 wild cards - cut off around 110.
Nottingham - 3 wild cards - cut off around 90.

N.B. Philippoussis is fit again and I am not sure if there's enough time left for him to get injured once more. furious.gif

Surbiton -

Goodall, Baker, Marray, Mackin. If Goodall gets a direct entry by winning three matches in Lanzarote, Rushby can take one. Baker can get a direct entry by doing exceptionally well in the next two weeks.

Queen's -

Boggo, Bloomers, Goodall and Baker are obvious choices. It's tough to decide between Marray and Mackin as Mackin has an overall better game but Marray has a greater chance of winning a match. I'll go for Marray because he was injured for quite some time and would have been ranked higher had it not been so.

Boggo can make the thing simple by winning Cardiff and then getting lucky with a direct entry.

I'd give the three qualies wild cards to Mackin, Cox and Evans. Dyce can take one if Mackin gets a main draw one. The Juniors could still be involved in Roland Garros.

Nottingham -

Boggo, Bloomers and Baker.

boggo should get any wc's he requires.

i think you are maybe being a bit optomisitic with queens, last year mr wrong said that why should he bother giving wc's to british players, it was only his interest to promote the tournie (or something along those lines)

would be great if alex can get a DE. queens or wimby, the cuts around the same.

yeah pretty much go along with the sentiments above - just a shame that the WC's almost seem to pick themselves! especially for surbiton!

think u gotta give boggo all the WC's he wants, to help him break the top 100. similarly for bloomers - he's made decent strides over the last year.

think marray/goodall deserve some too - they both have decent grass court games, but pretty much missed out last yr. tho mackin and baker might feel a bit agreived if they don't get an ATP WC.

ultimately, its very unlikely that more than 3 brits will get WC's to queens - I emailed mark petchey a couple of years ago about their WC policy - he said that the queens organisers basically give the lta only 2 or 3 WC's to hand out, and choose the remainder themselves!

I'd drop Marray and Mackin and pick a few of the youngsters,
I'd defo give the qualies wildcard to some of the kids who went to south America, they may lose but it would be vital experience!!!
Cox, Rice, Evans and Dyce could need the experience and it's a chance to practice with the big boys as well as play a few, the worst result is they lose, but they would be expecting that, but they'll also gain a lot of experience. we already know Cox can beat top 600 players, wo why no give them a shout?

Where would you give them main draw wild cards into? Surbiton or Queen's?

Queen's I don't agree with because they'll need to prove themselves more before they earn it.
Surbiton I agree with but they'll be at Roland Garros, so it's not possible.

For Surbiton: same as Panda except I'd give a wc to Kasiri if Goodall gets in direct and then give a wc to Rushby if Baker gets in.

It's only going to be 3 wcs max for Queens furious.gif Last year sucked as Brits only got 2/5 which was outrageous ! Boggo has to get one leaving 2 between Bloomers, Goodall and Baker. Tough one as Goodall did so well on the grass last July so it's hard to leave him out but unless anything changes in the next month, wcs have to go to Bloomers and Baker going by 2007 form...both have been v impressive. Last year Baker looked a bit out of his depth against Fish, I don't think that'll be the case this year, he's now got more in his game to compete with top 100 players and he believes he can too.

same with Nottingham tbh...Boggo, Bloomers and Baker.

how many qualies wcs are there ?

Matt has a point but imo it's a bit early to give any of them main draw wcs into Surbiton/Queens/Nottingham...we have to give wcs to players who could win matches and on fast grass atm, all of them would get outclassed....Dyce needs to prove himself in futures first before he can get challenger wcs, same for Evans and Rice, Cox has proved himself in futures to some extent but Surbiton is without a doubt the strongest GB challenger and there are players who deserve wcs more. I don't think any of them have big enough games (yet !) or experience to come close to winning a match at Surbiton...something which guys like Marray, Baker, Mackin, Goodall etc even Boggo, all find tough. In Queens or Nottingham main draw the junior would be up against top 100 guys and it'd be something like 0 and 1 which would be pointless.

I had completely forgotten about Kasiri. omfg.gif I agree with that - Kasiri, then Rushby, then Willis.

Cox and Evans can definitely give many players in Surbiton a good match. Don't forget that Cox nearly beat Mankad on grass. And Mankad is capable of taking the title in Surbiton.

I feel bad for Mankad. He would have been a top 100 player had he been a little taller. cry.gif

At Queen's qualies? Just three.
