its just after prague i think. so alex needs to do well in lanza (where he is effectivly defending a qf) and maybe in praque (which imo is a bit unlikey as it will be hs 1st clay event)

alex is 41 points of 110. so taking into considering his 12 points to defend of lanza. it makes it about 53. meaning winning lanza would take him there. al needs consistency to make progress now.

I've just got back from Cardiff where I was one of the few there to see the game and can report:
Alex served first, but double faulted on the first point, he continued to have trouble settling, double faulting at break point to hand Niemeyer the advantage. For the rest of the set, both players serve looked strong. I dont remember either of them getting further than 15 into the others serve. 6-4 to Niemeyer.
Alex served first again and the second set continued where the first left off and went with serve until Alex was 5-4 up when made his best inroad into Niemeyers serve, and got to deuce once, but that was as far as it went and Niemeyer held for 5-5. The initiative stayed with Niemeyer and Alex was broken next game followed by an easy hold to serve out the set and the match.
Alex was the less settled of the two, there were I think 2 more double faults after the first game, I dont recollect any from Niemeyer.
Niemeyer served up lots of aces, he has amassive serve, and Alex never really looked as if he was going to break him, even in the game when he got to deuce. Alexs own serve also looked very strong today, it was a clash of two similar players both serving well, but the better player on the day won, and the score line was a fair reflection.
Still a good week though.
PS. I had quite a bit of trouble tracking down where it was being played, and the facilities for spectators were not great, only about a dozen chairs (that were there anyway) for about 30-40 spectators. Not very impressive considering this was the Welsh National Tennis Centre. Shrewsbury was much better (although they did charge £6, whereas this was free).
Of all tyrannies a tyranny exercised for the good of its victim may be the most oppressive.... those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience
