Cardiff Challenger Final : Boggo v Niemeyer

Shame Boggo couldn't take it but still a very good fortnight from him, I don't think we should be upset with a win and a final.

Hopefully he can win a few rounds in Lanzarote and get himself a new career high, and a some DEs for ATPs.

Where is the cut off for Wimbledon usually? (ie what would he need to do to get a DE instead of a wildcard this year?)

its just after prague i think. so alex needs to do well in lanza (where he is effectivly defending a qf) and maybe in praque (which imo is a bit unlikey as it will be hs 1st clay event)

opps, where, ithink last year it was 109.

so its actaully qute a lot of points difference i think, alex will also have to hope for quite a lot of withdrawls.

if alex where to win lanza i dont thnk even that woud kae him top 100, might be wrong tho.

alex is 41 points of 110. so taking into considering his 12 points to defend of lanza. it makes it about 53. meaning winning lanza would take him there. al needs consistency to make progress now.

When is helpful as well so thanks.

Alex is (very) roughly 80 points off 100 and 55 from 109 so I doubt he'll make it in time. We can still dream though!

I haven't time to follow tennis today but couldn't resist nipping on to check on Boggo.

I wish I hadn't, now, I was happier before1. Ah well, on the the next challenge (r).

I've just got back from Cardiff where I was one of the few there to see the game and can report:

Alex served first, but double faulted on the first point, he continued to have trouble settling, double faulting at break point to hand Niemeyer the advantage. For the rest of the set, both players serve looked strong. I dont remember either of them getting further than 15 into the others serve. 6-4 to Niemeyer.

Alex served first again and the second set continued where the first left off and went with serve until Alex was 5-4 up when made his best inroad into Niemeyers serve, and got to deuce once, but that was as far as it went and Niemeyer held for 5-5. The initiative stayed with Niemeyer and Alex was broken next game followed by an easy hold to serve out the set and the match.

Alex was the less settled of the two, there were I think 2 more double faults after the first game, I dont recollect any from Niemeyer.

Niemeyer served up lots of aces, he has amassive serve, and Alex never really looked as if he was going to break him, even in the game when he got to deuce. Alexs own serve also looked very strong today, it was a clash of two similar players both serving well, but the better player on the day won, and the score line was a fair reflection.

Still a good week though.

PS. I had quite a bit of trouble tracking down where it was being played, and the facilities for spectators were not great, only about a dozen chairs (that were there anyway) for about 30-40 spectators. Not very impressive considering this was the Welsh National Tennis Centre.  Shrewsbury was much better (although they did charge £6, whereas this was free).

Yes thank you, it's always good to hear a little more about what happened after a match.
