Surbiton Trophy 2007.

Just of fthe phone with Nigel Sears for his update on today's play for bt.net.

He said Naomi hadn't made the cut on 14th May, which is the day on which the direct entry rankings are taken from. Hence the wildcard.

Really freaky picture of Olivia Scarfi here !!!  jawdrop.gif

Woah, has this girl been working out in the gym or what !!!   Those biceps look the same size as Nadal's !  Never seen anything like it before on a girl, they must be twice the size of boyfriend Jamie Baker's biceps !

I don't know much about how the women's game works, but what sort of a rule is that?? confused.gif

Doesn't it happen like this - a player gets a wild card, but if she gets a direct entry, someone else gets it?

Nigel Sears, The LTA's head of women's tennis spoke with britishtennis.net from the Surbiton Challenger today.

The highlight for him was Naomi Broady's vicrtory over top 500 player Marija Mirkovic: It's the highest ranked player she's beaten, and she did it well, fighting back after beaing down early on.

He was also pleased at the way that Amanda Elliott pushed world 98 Jamea Jackson close in her qualifying match: building on what she'd achieved in the 10Ks earlier in the year.

While Karen Paterson didn't play as smart a game as she could have done in her loss to Emily Webley- Smith,  all credit to Emily, as she carried on her form from her tour of Mexico, served well and fully deserved to win.

In the main draw, he's quite tickled by the Anna Keothavong - Natasha Khan match - up, as they've both just been linked up with Simon Walsh, one of the LTA's new elite coaches.  Simon has previously guided Samantha Stosur and Katarina Srebotnik into the top 100, and one week into his new job will be watching his new charges play each other in round 1 of Surbiton.

Another first round game he'll be very intersted in in Elena Baltacha's return to the grass against Kiwi Leanne Baker.

Arka, she didn't get a direct entry. When the cut was made she was still ranked in the 300s

You don't need to search for them. smile.gif

The entry lists give the rankings as of when it was sign deadline.

And the rule is definitely the way I was telling it to be. clap.gif

Look at the entry list for the 50K in Carson that's being played this week-

The first wild card has been given to one Lindsey Nelson.

But there were late withdrawals and the Nelson got a direct entry. So the wild card goes to Stacey Tan -

Given that Nigel will hopefully be giving us match info on the Brits throughout the next few weeks I think I'll let this one rest...I don't want to irritate him....

I mean he's not gonna want to admit to a random fan that the LTA have c*cked up on the wildcards

Now the LTA doesn't even know how to make draws, haha. smile.gif

Could someone call up the tournament director and shout at her/him?

I'll mail them, but I want to be sure that I'm not making a mistake at first.
