I saw th end of the 2nd set, start of the 3rd, while having lunch. A few good shots, but overall neither of them look very good. They're having a tight battle for who can get to 30 unforced errors first.

AK and EB currently in a third set tiebreak, the best finish to a close match I think...
AK-EB
3-3* (no idea if that's 3 mbs each or all on serve or somewhere in the middle!) *4-3 (that one's a mb though!) *4-4 (which elena gets back straight away) 5-5* (missed whether they were mbs or not) *5-6 (MP to Elena) and Elena wins 7-5 in the final set tiebreak. I don't think you ask for it to be any closer. Comiserations to Anne.

its was very nerve wracking to watch! in the first 2 sets, either player made alot of unforced errors. come the final set, they upped their game until the 6th game when Anne broke Ballt to lead 4-2, but her leg injury bothered her so there was a lengthy time out, in which i thought Bally will win with ease! but i was wrong. i knew Bally would win but she needs improvement in her movement. Forehand was her great weapon but she was outhit by Anne who hit twice as many forehand winners than Bally. in the end bally deserved because she had the bigger game than Anne.
Bally now faces Vaidisova which is a very tough match. If Bally got any chance to win the match, then she needs to hold her serve more easily and move her opponent to keep her on her toes but i doubt that will happen because Nicole's serve and forehand is better than Bally, hopefully she'll put in a credible performance.
Brilliant win for Katie over Bardina 75 63 (after being 13 down in the first set). First time she has had wins over players at this level, so hopefully she will now believe she can be a Tour level player. She will become British number 1 next week, unless Mel wins another match.
So weather permitting, Katie v Dementieva, Balatcha v Vaidisova and South v Bartoli. great match ups but who will be the closet to their opponent???
i think Katie got a good chance of causing an upset, but it depends which Demi turns up! South got a shout in her match, but she cant start off slowly like her previous match. And for Bally i hope she gives a good performance against nicole.
CENTRE COURT Starting at 11:30am Elena BALTACHA (GBR) vs Nicole VAIDISOVA (CZE) followed by Justine HENIN (BEL) vs Agnieszka RADWANSKA (POL) followed by Mara SANTANGELO (ITA) vs Amelie MAURESMO (FRA) followed by Elena DEMENTIEVA (RUS) vs Katie O'BRIEN (GBR) followed by Alicia MOLIK (AUS)/Mara SANTANGELO (ITA) vs Nathalie DECHY (FRA)/ Tiantian SUN (CHN)
COURT 1 Starting at 11:30am Sybille BAMMER (AUT) vs Lucie SAFAROVA (CZE) followed by Nathalie DECHY (FRA) vs Nadia PETROVA (RUS) followed by Melanie SOUTH (GBR) vs Marion BARTOLI (FRA)
Massive ranking boost here for all: 50 points so far for Bally and Katie, and 35 for Mel.
Whilst the R1 draws were kind (except to Katie, whose win was just great), this has been a really optimistic few days (added to a couple of decent performances in Wimbledon Qualies, and Naomi winning last week).
(Bally up to 270 or so I think; Anna FitzP to c. 400; Mels points just about offset her Wimby win last year, so if she repeats again, she will rise significantly after; Katie to c. 150; all these subject to me understanding WTA ranking system a la 2007 version).
Bally actually has by far the best W/L record of any UK player this year. If she get a wimby win, she will be well back in it.
