Not bad, thought it would be closer but Bartoli showed the different in class at the moment. Good experience for Naomi. I hope she gets a good draw at wimbledon to win a match or two.
As you say difference in class. Still a step up on last year. My hope is that Naomi will be making main draws like this by rights by this time next year!
The Brits winning run ended on Wednesday when she lost 6-3, 6-1 to No.5 seed Marion Bartoli, but she is feeling upbeat following her performance this week.
I think there are loads of positives I can take away from this into the next couple of tour events Im going to be playing, said the 18-year-old.
I really enjoyed myself here yesterday, played a great match. I played to the best of my abilities today and shes (Bartoli) obviously a lot tougher than the other girl (Bardina).
Cavaday played a strong first set against Frenchwoman Bartoli, but struggled on serve, an area of her game that helped her overcome Bardina in round one.
The first set was competitive today, said Cavaday. I didnt serve well throughout the whole match but even with that I really had chances and playing off the back court there was no difference (between us).
I think I ran well, moved well, a lot of things Ive been working on I put into play today against such highly ranked opposition so I was really happy with that performance.
Cavaday said she hadnt been nervous playing on Edgbaston Priorys centre court in front of a home crowd.
Its awesome, its great, and thats what everybody works for. To have that opportunity is great and to have the opportunity to compete in this type of tournament is fantastic. Home crowd, centre court, it was really great fun. I wasnt feeling nervous. I enjoy it. Everyones on my side. How can that be a bad thing?
With her big lefty serve, world No.243 Cavaday is relishing playing on grass and said the experience of playing against more highly ranked opponents is invaluable to her.
Its improved my confidence - beating Bardina, whos 60 in the world. I know theres going to be players in the top 100 that I definitely can beat and theres going to be some of the top-ranked players that I know I can compete with like I did last year and like I did for a set today.
Theres a long way to go but as long as I keep learning and keep enjoying it well see what happens. Im relatively young with my playing years. I havent had that many experiences. Ive only played one match at Wimbledon so Ive not had the experience that pretty much everyone in the draw has had.
And she said British womens tennis was getting increasingly competitive.
In general for British womens tennis its moving in the right direction. Everyones ranking is moving up and I think in a couple of years it can get pretty interesting.
