starts on wednesday

I spoke to Olivia Scarfi yesterday...she said that she quite likes the grass, was pleased to have that great win over Kritz in Surbiton qualies last week....however, unfortunately in that match, she fell and chipped the bone in her thumb and has been in a lot of pain since...it meant she wasn't able to give 100% in her rd1 match against a top 150 girl. The thumb is still causing her problems and the medics aren't going to put it in a plaster...she's still gonna play the playoffs tho as it isn't going to get any worse

The draw is as follows:

(1)Karen Paterson vs Olivia Scarfi
Anna Hawkins vs Julia Bone
Abbie Probert vs Amanda Elliot
Katherina Brown vs Emily Webley-Smith

(2) Rebecca Llewellyn vs Deborah Armstrong
Jessica Jackson vs Jade Curtis
Jade Windley vs Naomi Broady
Yasmin Clarke vs (4) Anna Fitzpatrick

There is 1 qualy WC guaranteed from each section, but the losing finalists in each section could also get in. Notable absentees are Anna Smith and Sarah Coles - there is no third seed in the draw, so one of these two pulled out at the last minute.

Great stuff, Yasmin had some really great results last autumn, making the latter stages of several futures so it's been a real shame that injuries and GCSEs have forced her out for the first 6 months of this week....tough match tho against Fitzy...I can't see Yasmin winning that one

I guess that Anna Smith is still struggling with the injury which forced her to retire in Birmingham cry.gif

Some fascinating match-ups here....particularly Windley-Broady....that will be a cracker...with it being grass I think Broady will take it...Broady-Fitzpatrick and Llewellyn-Curtis would be two v interesting rd2 matches

Olivia is unlucky to draw Karen in rd1, I think that would have been v close but Olivia's injury is a big disadvantage and Karen played great against Govortsova in qualies on Sat, really could have won that one...winning the doubles in Surbiton was a major boost for her

I'd guess the quarters to be:

Karen v Julia, Amanda E v Emily (another potentially fascinating match), Becky v Jade, Fitzy v Broady

laughing.gif Sorry Sheddie just had to point that typo out biggrin.gif

Some good match ups there and I think the two wildcards could go to any number of them, it's not a foregone conclusion which is nice.

Good win for Jade Windley. Noami must be gutted though.

Nice fight from Yasmin in her 1st match back. Hopefully i'll get to see her in wrexham this year.

Wow, Jade winning that is a shock after Naomi's form in Surbiton

V interesting rd2 match now between her and Fitzy...Yasmin Clarke did really well to push her that close considering that was her first match of the year ! Hopefully Yasmin can continue to push upwards and make top 600 by the end of the year

So 4 fascinating matches: Paterson-Bone, Elliott-Webley Smith, Llewellyn-Curtis and Fitzpatrick-Windley

Who do we think will win ?

Karen won the only previous match she and Julia have had, in 3 sets back in 2004...I think her better grass court game (she has the better serve and is more aggressive from the back) will see her through.

Amanda E has put in some great performances for little reward against top 100 players in Birmingham and Eastbourne...however, emily has so much grass court nous..Amanda won't be used to that style of play, I think emily will come through in 3

I'm going for Jade C to upset Becky in 3 and Anna F to overcome Jade W also in a tight 3 setter
