RE: Wimbledon wildcards

would you care to elaborate?

well. for some people doubles rankings are very important and some even concentrate solely on this ranking. now i am british through an through but the likes of jade curtis and amanda elliot are not good enough in doubles to be awarded wildcards into WIMBLEDON.
surely someone who has a higher dubs ranking would deserve it. i know it would be a great oppurtunity but i cant help but feel sorry for some poor foreigner or even a fellow brit who has really been dedicated to boosting their dubs ranking.
for pure example= liz thomas has booted her doubles ranking to 363 and cavaday at 384 and hawkins at 390.
these players may not be astonishing singles players but their doubles results are good. and also liz just beat harkleroad who is under 200 in singles the other day wat a win!!

Without intending any disrespect to any player, the aim of the country's tennis bodies is to create top singles players and not top doubles players.

Hawkins and Thomas aren't doubles specialists and the money they will get from their doubles wins will end up funding their singles careers. It's a far better investment to give wild cards to younger players who'll gain a lot of experience from this.

I think that only players who have decided to give doubles a priority over singles should be given wild cards. Otherwise it should be going to the younger boys and girls.

Wrong forum, I know, but it's ridiculous that Evans and Rice didn't get a wild card into Nottingham or Wimbly doubles.

Pavlyuchenkova has just been trashed 6-0, 6-1 by Hantuchova. I don't think a British girl could have done much better against Dani on grass but you never know - maybe someone else should have been given the funding boost instead of Anastasia?? Or would the inevitable defeat been mentally damaging for a British girl and I guess it would also fuel the media's view that British women are lazy etc etc.

It was great to see Pavlyuchenkova being thrashed and it wasn't shocking at all.

We should have articles about the rubbish foreign wild cards that the AELTC have chosen. smile.gif

Kutuzova lost, too. clap.gif
