I have long thought it was worth entering qualies to get the extra points and practice from time to time. It shows confidence that you will get there and probably ups the intensity as you know you should be in the main draw anyway.
Fabulous stuff!
Simmonds bt Baker earlier this year I think and he has lost to Yani in the past too. But hopefully the Waikoloa Baker will show up this week!
I wonder if Bobby Reynolds got injured at some point in his match against Yani: I see that he & Brian Wilson, the top seeds, have pulled out of the doubles & been replaced by lucky losers, Bradley Cox & Austin Krajicek (US/US), which leaves Hutch & Simmonds the highest seeds left by quite some way. They are in action on Court 3 at about midnight our time & that match is followed by the encounter which will determine who plays Hutchmons, if they get through against Lam & Wettengel...
His section has really opened up with Reynolds' shock exit...maybe he just ran out of steam after his efforts last week. Fatigue could be why he's pulled out of the doubles, give himself more time to recover for Vancouver next week
Baker and Simmonds have played twice before. The American won 6-3, 7-6 on hard in the juniors back in 2004. Jamie got revenge at the start of 2006, winning 6-7(6), 6-1, 7-6(4) indoors.
Simmonds is ranked 323, career best of 219 reached last autumn. Don't know much about his game apart from that he's a big server. He's had a poor 2007, not been past rd2 of a challenger. Lost 7-6, 6-0 to Rajeev Ram in rd1 of Aptos last week. Last September he made quarters of two challengers, got a wildcard into the US Open, losing to Gasquet in rd1
Jamie has never played Yani who's been top 300 but is now down in the 600s and plays mainly on the futures circuit
I think I mix Simmonds and Scoville Jenkins up when I tihnk about one or the other of them Which I don't do very often. And Scoville bt Boggo earlier this year not Baker so I'm totally wrong.
Hutchins/Simmonds last in evening session on same court.
But who will their opponents be, Mergea & Rastogi or Capkovic & Klizan? I can't work the Lexington site out. The women's draws are up to date, but the men's are still showing the position as it was before yesterday's games! There isn't a hint of actual results anywhere that I can see, so if you happen to miss them while they're on the so-called live scoreboard, which is easy to do because it frequently freezes for a long time, you stand no chance of catching up with events!
